United Kingdom Future Pricing.. Is it already in place ??

I know the Jersey tax thing has crumbled. But the price hike is due in April.

I'm looking to pre-order The Thing. Except everywhere seems to be £17.99. I started to check places I never order from, but seem to have low prices, i.e Sainsburys and Tesco.

Their preorders, not just The Thing. It seems £17.99 - £18.67 (eh?) is normal.

Now none of these are post April, so either this hike has started, as I'm sure The Thing and others would have been £14.99 (if the was a few months ago)

Or, worse, will the prices online from April be say £18.99 - £20.99, as an example.

Anyone in the know, who could confirm or anyone else started noticing pre orders are price increasing already ???

I noticed stuff like Cowboys & Aliens was closer to £20 than £15 when it was released in-stores but no I haven't really seen a big change. I think most on-line retailers will eat the cost or fear losing business. I guess it depends on the title and the studio, Hugo is 14.99 for the 3D pre-order.

We might see a big pre-order push with retailers which might see them upping the price come release day.

Just like before, if you want it cheap(er) then patience is required, just wait 'till it comes down in price. They can ask £25 for a disc...if they don't want to sell that many!

Some of the price increases are insane though. Tintin was £17.99 everywhere but I found it for £14.99 on HMV. If I see something cheap like this I'm preordering it now in case it goes up by release day.

Last few blu-rays I've preordered have been around the £12/£13 mark. I was starting to think prices had gone down!

I would never pay over £15 for a Blu-ray of a single film, even if it has oodles of extra features. I'll always wait for prices to drop to below £15, and if that means waiting a few months then so be it.

The studios are simply being greedy.

Just bringing this back into play....

As it turns April this weekend, is anyone expecting to see this price increase from the Jersey based sellers ?

Nothing really been mentioned for a few months

After paying £20 for Criterion discs and £55 for my Japanese Ghibli films, I don't see price the same way anymore.

Agree on that, just bought my first Criterion's... six and they don't come cheaply even before shipping. That plus the usual MoC releases has increased the average cost of a BD for me!

Anything outside of that though and I don't liek paying more than £10. I'm seeing quite a few BD's at less than £7 now though - release day is becoming a thing of the past for me.

I'm hoping for some good Easter sales from some online retailers.

I don't know if it is anything to do with this but HMV's prices seems to have suddenly sky rocketed. Just on their front page -

Tintin and King of New York - £22
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Ghost Rider 2, Puss in Boots 3D, Underworld 4, Woman in Black - £25
Sherlock Holmes 2 and M:I-4 - £28!
James Bond Boxset - £120

Plus many increases on other blus dotted around the place (their steelbooks all seem to now be £25).

I hope this is some sort of mistake or temporary thing because some of those are an increase of over 50%.

with those prices on HMV seem to have added £5-£7 on everything.
Zavvi have bumped their prices up by £2 or £3.

Prices on Play and Amazon have no changes.

Indigo starfish still appears to be shipping Tintin - so maybe Amazon has yet to introduce the new prices.

With prices that that HMV will find it hard to move stock.

This is my concern. With their debt problems from the past year or so surely they need to be much more careful of this sort of thing. They're effectively shutting themselves out of the market this way; their brand name or loyalty card won't keep customers buying with them when their prices are so much higher than Amazon. It takes no effort for customers to click over to another site and save £10 on M:I-4.
