40gb or 80gb ps3 help

Im going to be getting a ps3 at the end of this month and am wondering what one to go with. If I get the 40gb I'll be getting the ps2 as well, but I dont mind the price its just a pain to have 2 systems. There a not a lot of ps2 games I play but there are some ps1 games I play such as Final Fantasy 7 at least every other year since its came out. This is the one game that will not work on the ps3 80gb that has me on the fence about it. Do they release patches for old games so they will work or is it just that you get what you get? If this is something that can be fixed I may wait for a patch but it seems like this would have been one of the first games to be patched. My other concern with the 40gb ps3 is that Sony is having a different company make it. Im just wondering if it will be the same quality of the others. Any thoughts on this topic would be greatly appreciated.
