Default HBO/Netflix

Does anyone know if Netflix has a 28 day delay deal with HBO, similar to their deals with some studios?

I asked Netflix customer service and they didnt know?

Thanks

Well, I found my answer. Ugh.

HBO is refusing to sell Blu-rays and DVDs to Netflix which is forcing Netflix to buy them at retail.

Someone at Netflix made a statement saying they will still be carrying HBO shows etc....so it shouldnt be a problem...

I do not believe there is a 28 day wait like some movies....if you give me an example... i can check on my netflix and let you know if it is available.

Netflix has become f---ing PATHETIC when it comes to renting Blu Rays. You can take Boardwalk Empire and add it to the ever growing list (which ironically enough is as long as an actual boardwalk) of movies/t.v. shows that are unavailable to rent. Justified, Walking Dead, Taxi Driver, Exorcist, Ben Hur, and the list goes on... and on... and on...

Gotta be fair to Netflix on this HBO deal though. It's HBO that's refusing to sell to them.

Justified and Walking Dead are both available in Blu-ray at Netflix... I've recently rented them.

You're right. HBO is to blame for this deal. However Netflix does charge you & I and probably thousands (millions?) of it's members an extra fee for renting Blu Rays. They have no excuse as to why they can't take that collective extra fee and buy at least 1 retail copy of a hot new T.V. show like Boardwalk Empire or mega popular movies like the Back To The Future Trilogy and Alien series.

And thank you for pointing that out about The Walking Dead and Justified. At this point when I go and type in a title and it comes up with the all too familiar "Blu-ray availability date unknown" I usually just move on and ass-u-me they don't have it.

I don't know what season(s) of Justified you rented or how recently you rented but I just checked Netflix and they do have Season 2 on Blu but Season 1 is listed (in my queue at least) as DVD only.

Totally agree.

I rented season 1 on Blu-ray on 12/9/11.

keep an eye peeled for goofs. Justified season 1 appeared in my queue as DVD. I called them to complain and they said that although the page indicated that it wasnt available on Blu, it actually WAS. They manually changed it to Blu in my queue. They said they would fix the Justified page, but obviously never did.

I had the exact opposite problem with Dollhouse season 2. The page says that it is available on Blu, but when I add it to my queue it appears as DVD. I called to complain and they said they do NOT have it on Blu, so I was stuck with the DVDs. Thay said they would fix the Dollhouse page, but never have. The extra frustration is that season 1 was available on Blu, yet 2 isnt.

They have Battlestar Galactica season 1-3 and 4.5 on Blu, but season 4.0 is only on DVD.

Double check everything you put in your queue and call them if you have to. Sometimes it pays off.

There's only two shows I can think of that I looked for to watch: Entourage because I lost interest but now that it's finished, I figured I'd start from the beginning and work my way up; and In Treatment.

I was more disappointed that I couldn't get the latter.

Netflix has made good on their claim that they would purchase HBO shows retail in order to satisfy demand from their subscribers. And darn quickly too.

Boardwalk Empire season one is available on DVD AND Blu-ray today, one day after it streeted. Not too bad.

Now if they would get the other 12 jillion movies/TV shows that are on Blu-ray, I could stop all my b!tching.

Give Netflix a year or 2 and they will be out of business anyway. All the networks are going to go the HBO route and start their own streaming service like HBOGO that is free to those who subscribe to their network.

LOL.

All these big companies (HBO, Showtime) thinking that they will get people to pay them instead of Netflix are crazy. Netflix brings together hundreds (if not thousands) of shows from networks who WANT people to watch their shows.

It's more likely to see a big shift or collapse from cable/satellite than Netflix.

I think while HBO, Showtime exc. all want their own on demand services the fact is they could do what they do with the networks and work deals with netflix and charge them an arm and a leg to use their programming.
