Arrow Salt 2

Quote:
If you've seen Salt you understand why everyone comes out of it talking about potential sequels-- and if you haven't, don't worry, that's all I'm spoiling here. But when I was at the junket for Salt about a month ago we all pestered pretty much everyone involved about sequel potential, and each of them gave the same vague "We'll see how it does, but I'd love to do it" response. At the time no one seemed to know how a female-driven spy movie might perform at the box office, or even if audiences though Angelina still had what it takes to be a convincing action hero.

But with Salt inching toward $100 million domestic, now's the time to start talking sequels for real. According to The Los Angeles Times everyone involved is still gun ho about the idea, but Sony may be more skeptical because the movie hasn't yet fully opened overseas, and the movie still cost $110 million, with the sequel likely to cost more. Jolie isn't committed to any other projects at the moment though-- she told us at the junket that she's "just mommy" now while Brad works-- and director Philip Noyce could likely be talked back on board. Screenwriter Kurt Wimmer is apparently coming up with ideas too. Really, all they need now is the money.

I was an unabashedly big fan of Salt and would love to see where they can take the franchise next, especially if they learn a few lessons from the flaws of the first film. Unless the movie performs particularly disastrously internationally it seems like a sequel is a pretty good bet, giving Evelyn Salt the chance to truly be the new, female Bourne.

Can't say that I am excited about Salt 2. Angelina (all 80 pounds of her) going through all kinds of 200+ pound, government trained men like they were a wet paper bag.

I'm going to have to go with Titan on this one. Way too unrealistic.

I have not seen this, because frankly it looked like crap, but what is it about the ending that they need a sequel for? Was she really a double agent? Cause that's pretty much what I assumed from the trailers. So to those that have seen this, feel free to ruin the ending for me, since I could care less.

I would see it because it is an Angelina movie, but seriously?

The movie is very good. I don't think you will be disappointed.
I am definitely interested in SALT 2. I'd like to see what direction they go with it.

[Show spoiler]She is a triple agent, meaning she works for the CIA, but is really a Russian spy, but has a change of heart and turns on the Russians who trained her because they're dicks and she has a heart, in a nutshell.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and thought it was leaps and bounds better than that frenetic, simple-minded mess of a movie called The A Team.

If Salt was a good movie, this thread would have been much longer by now.

Yeah! To heck with going to http://www.rottentomatoes.com or, God forbid, watching a movie and judging for yourself; let's instead depend on thread length to determine the worth of a movie. (and yeah, I know you're kidding. So am I!)

Deadline now reports that Sony has set the first film’s screenwriter, Kurt Wimmer, to start working on a sequel. Jolie is keen to reprise her role from the first flick, and director Phillip Noyce is game to come back for another go-around, though he’s not officially committed to the project just yet.

A follow-up has been rumored since last August, after Salt took in almost $300 million worldwide. While reviews were mixed to positive, one can’t deny Jolie’s international draw (did anyone from America actually see The Tourist?). No word on how soon the sequel will go into production, but we’ll know more once Wimmer turns in his first draft of the screenplay.

This is great news...the way the first one ended a second was definitely going to happen if the numbers were good enough. Can't wait.
