Australia The Descent 2?

I have a strong feeling that Lionsgate won't be putting this one on Blu-Ray for the US for a long time.

I just have some questions about the Australian release of the sequel.

1) How is the picture quality? 1080P or 1080i?

2) How is the audio quality? What kind of track does it have?

3) Any extras?

4) Do you guys recommend buying this or just waiting for an eventual US release?

I liked this film, not as good as the first but good enough to add to your Blu library!
Audio: DTS-HD MA5.1, Dolby True HD 5.1
Picture: 1080p
No extras on this release.

Here are some reviews:

Hope that helps out

I second this. Decent movie in its own right, but not as good as the original. Good AQ and PQ and definitely worth adding to your blu collection.

So it has both DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD both for the English??

Also, where can I buy Australian Blu-Ray to import to the US?

And what are the differences between the US release of The Descent Part 1 and the Australian version? What's the difference in terms of AQ and PQ, I don't care about extras.

Australias release of the descent has no dnr, and thus more detail from memory.

Personally I really enjoyed the first one but the second one was horrible.

Does it sound better than the US release? How's the AQ?

I just want the second to have next to the first one, haven't even seen the second one.

Where can I buy Australian Blu-Rays to be sent to the US?

The audio is DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. The U.S release was 7.1 PCM, but unless you have a 7.1 surround system, they should be much of a muchness.

Here is a comparison between the UK & Australian releases....there has been much said about the Australian vs U.S release in other forums, and each time the Australian edition seems to be the one people vote as the best image quality.

You can purchase from here - http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/802989

I can't speak about the US mix but the AU release is great. Being that the 7.1 on the US release would have been created after the fact as it wasn't mixed in 7.1 originally the 5.1 played back using Pro Logic IIx on a 7.1 system probably does as good a job as the actual 7.1 mix does. After all, the 7.1 mix on the US BD is probably just matrixed.

Agreed, the AU edition trumps the US one by far. The US version looks really flat when compared to the AU version, not to mention that often times the highlights seem to have issues on the US disc which may be a result of gamma being out of whack and contrast not being quite so strong. All in all though the AU release looks great and has plenty of atmosphere in the underground scenes.

I scored the Descent in Sanity's 3 for $40 they ran a while back. They ship internationally. Chaos and JB Hi-Fi do too so that should give you a few options 28BlusLater.

How much is shipping to the US on that site?

I only have a 5.1 system, but is it region free or region B locked?

That's pretty expensive for a Blu-Ray...

Can you guys post picture of the front and back for me? I'd really appreciate it. Is the track exactly the same, just that the difference is a 5.1 and 7.1 track? Or is one more aggressive of a track than the other?

Both are very good lossless tracks. As far as I could tell they where identical, exept one when was 7.1 and the other was a 6.1. The difference is neglegible in terms of audio, the vq is where the differences are.

Descent 2 does feature a strong video transfer, but it often shows that it was made on the cheap. The lighting is sub-par (to the extent that total areas are bright for some reason?), and that flares are just a solid color with no flicker, the visual effects are simply terrible and fall into laughably bad. The blood is also a fluro red color, as compared to a normal red.

If you buy from Chaos they don't charge for shipping if it's in stock. They also take the GST off the advertised price so it'd be about $16.50 US from what I can tell.

It's been widely reported to be region free and the cover states ABC, but I don't have the means to confirm.

I got three Blu-rays for $40 total. That's pretty cheap at $13.33 AU each.

If you check the database entry you'll find hi-res scans there.

As I mentioned earlier I don't have access to the US one but I seriously doubt it would top the AU track by much if there was any difference at all. It's a solid track.

Oh, I didn't see the 3, thought you meant for one Blu-Ray, I was going to say $40 for ONE Blu-Ray? Haha.

I'll probably keep my US edition until I get this and test them next to each other to see how they sound compared to each other.

Thanks for the link!!

How's the quality for The Descent 2 (PQ and AQ)? If anyone on here has it or has seen/heard the transfer.

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't see that post you put.

To be honest, I can tell this will be terrible, but I want it just to sit next to the first one. I doubt that it will be released in the US for a long time. And even then, I doubt Lionsgate will really put effort into it since it's just a release that never even got a limited theatrical run in the US.

I don't have a 7.1 system and doubt I will for a long time since there aren't many 7 channel tracks on the market right now.

Anywhere to buy Descent 2 for a decent price? They're asking for $42 for it on chaos.com . That's RIDICULOUS!

It'll take a while to drop as it's a very minor release. But it'll drop soon enough. The Descent 2 is okay, if you view it as a fan fiction, but to take it seriously as a continuation of the first film makes it horrible. There was more tension before they go underground in the first descent then there was in the whole of the descent 2. In fact, I usually have to take a 15 minute break when watching the first film about half way through as i find the tension to be to much otherwise.

I hope it drops soon.

I found that the movie was tense before those things even showed up!! Haha.
Just the claustrophobic feeling that movie gives is incredible.

I'll probably end up getting the Australian cut of both of them. Just have to wait for Descent 2 to drop in price. However, I know it's going to be a terrible film, but it's just so I have both of them sitting next to each other on the shelf.

Even when only trailers were hitting the internet, I wasn't too excited about it. It's almost impossible to create the same atmosphere and just the fantastic movie it was overall into a sequel given to a different director.

Which ending does the australian release of The Descent use?

Is it the crappy US one or the true, and stronger original ending? Please let me know asap.

Good!

I hated the US ending.

I can't wait to eventually get this import. Looking at comparison photos, I like the AU version much more. So much more detail, darker, and fits the atmosphere of the film more.

The US transfer is still absolutely fantastic, but is a bit bright.
