Default Full Metal Jacket headed to Blu-ray

Even though it may be MPEG2, it can't be any worse quality than the HD DVD is right?

Saying that is tempting fate! There is no reason to believe it is from a better master

IMO and in a lot of reviewer's opinions it's the worst looking HD DVD to date. Please don't tell me you think it looks good.

It was one of the 1080i bob discs. To be frank though, I thought it's quality was closer to that of VHS rather than even SD DVD.

I haven't seen it. However, the movie is what, 20 something years old? You can't expect every movie that came out before 2000 to look good.

I don't expect older films to look as good as new releases but I do expect them to at least be of the quality shown by HDNet on older films. They show some nice HD presentations of movies from the 60's and 70's that look way better than the FMJ HD DVD. Warner botched this disc and certainly should have found a better transfer. I expect a much better looking re-release at some point.

Like i said, I saw this movie on HBOHD several times and it looked just fine, this must have been a poor transfer. Hopefully they re-do and get it closer to what i saw on HBOHD.

One film (sorry to stary off topic) to me that looks bad on HD is Titanic. I swear my DVD looks better. (okay maybe not) but the whole movie has this weird painted look. Some scenes look ok, but close ups of faces (this movie has tons) show a weird look, almost like when you get poor reception on OTA analog broadcast but not as severe. The xbox360 came loaded with a Titanic HD preview and it is light years above the HBOHD broadcast from the scenes i saw.
