Default HD VMD Players Make US Debut

"Two high-def disc formats not enough for you? The long-awaited Versatile Media Disc (VMD) is now officially available in the United States."

Gadget blog Technabob was first to note the inconspicuous US market debut for VMD on Amazon.com, where three VMD players are being sold direct from the manufacturer, with prices starting at only $189."

Can't wait to pick up one of these especially since it has no major studio support. Sounds awesome. Way to further confuse consumers.

Oh great, the Ross Perot of High Def Media has arrived.

I hope the ALL the major studios shoots this thing down. Can you imagine both sides losing to this joke?

With NO major studios supporting it, and just a couple of independant ones, I don't see how this format will survive past the middle of next year.

The same thing here as with HD DVD. Too little, too late. Anyone remember the 2.88 floppy? Very short life. How about the LS120 floppy drives? I bought one. "Oh wow, 125MB of space on a special floppy disc." Meanwhile, the world had gone to 650MB CD's.

Now this thing. Again, too little too late. Just robbing people of their invested money, that's all. Just like the dot com's did.

Take some of the issues that HDDVD has (only 1 manufacturer, weak content support) make those much much worse and then add in non-existant retailer support!

Yeah this will "fly" off the shelves. Oh wait....its not on shelves because its not in stores!!!

Last edited by Luis_A51; 10-10-2007 at 03:39 PM. Reason: HDDVD has many more flaws than I stated

Here is why HD VMD is better than HD DVD:
* more bitrate.
* same capacity

Here is why HD VMD is worse than BD:
* less bitrate
* RED LASER (are you joking, using red laser in the age of blu laser????)
* lots of layers - a lot of possible hiccups, and possibly can't be extended to 50GB. Imagine how many layers are there for 30GB capacity

Don't get into this format.

HD-VMD? What are these people thinking?

It's dead out of the gates.

NME is a brand absolutely no one has heard of, it has absolutely no major studio support, and it has, so far, no retailer support.

I dont understand how they expect to contend. They're way too late at this stage.
