Default M&K Speakers

Hi Everyone! In 2003 when setting up my 5.1 system, I purchased a set of M&K speakers and sub. I believe it was the K series. K4 for surrounds, K5 for fronts, K7 for center and K9 sub. The set cost between $1200 and $1500. To my ears it sounds wonderful as I have them hooked to a Yamaha 663. I know M&K has either gone out of business or changed ownership. It's very hard to find past reviews or info on these. Does anyone else use M&K (either these models or any kind) and what are your thoughts on them? How do they rank with other well known companies? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I am a long time M&K owner and there speakers are still HIGHLY respected in the industry.
Personally I auditioned many speakers and decided on there reference speakers the M&K S-50000 THX, which I still own today.

These and some of the other M&K speakers systems (150 & 250) are used in some of best movie & sound mixing facilities in the world.

Studios such as 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures & Music, Universal Studios, Warner Bros, Walt Disney, Paramount, Dreamworks, Lucasflim, Dolby Labs, DTS, Skywalker Sound, & Virgin Entertaiment Group to name a few.

The original founder of M&K Ken Kreisel, is a highly regarded leader and authority in the speaker community.

I am very happy with the performance of my M&K S5000 system and use it mainly for blu-ray movie playback and high resolution multichannel DVD-A & SACD music.

My speaker setup: (5) M&K S5000 (4 on M&K tilting stands and 1 for center channel) - (2) M&K SS-500 (wall/ceiling mounted in mid room) - (2) M&K SW95 (ceiling mounted) - & (1) M&K MK-5000 sub.

I am the original owner and bought all these new when the original M&K was still in business.

Currently have these speakers set up in a 7.1 configuration with the (2) additional SW95 speakers pulling THX Ultra2 Cinema, surround back duties.

I used to work in a recording studio that had a 5.1 M&K monitoring setup... those were some amazing speakers, I'm sorry to hear that they're out of business.

I listened to the S150THX speakers about 6 years ago. I can care less for THX certs, but I remember I was very impressed by them for HT. I wish I could give them a listen again.

By the way, the company has returned as MK Sound.

I really do like M&K speakers. The reorganized company, MK Sound, which is run by former M&K sales managers and speaker designers, can currently be purchased exclusively at Abt Electronics - http://www.abt.com .

I love M&K subwoofers and have two of them. My MX-125 Mk II sub is in my HT room, while my MX-70b Mk II sub is in my 2 channel system. They are very musical subs with great transient response, low end extension, and control. They are not boomy or muddy and disappear into the room.
