Default Disney's 'Paladin'

Quote:
Disney Taps Max Borenstein to Pen Original Sci-Fi Space Adventure PALADIN

With Disney’s intergalactic epic John Carter opening this weekend, you would think the studio would have had their fill of sci-fi fare for the time being. Apparently that’s not the case as we’re getting reports that they’ve just tapped The Seventh Son scribe, Max Borenstein to pen their sci-fi space adventure, Paladin. Details are short on the project at the moment and the logline is being kept under wraps, but THR reports that the studio did stress that it is in the realm of a big, epic adventure. Disney also recently picked up an untitled original sci-fi story from Chronicle scribe, Max Landis that involves a brother and sister venturing out into space. Both of these projects are in addition to the planned Dan Harris (Superman Returns) adaptation of Hover Car Racer. It seems that, regardless of John Carter’s performance at the box office this weekend, Disney is in the space race for the foreseeable future.

Maybe next time they'll have a competent marketing team attached to sell this film. I'm also curious if Interstellar will ever make it off the ground (heh, heh). Would have loved some Spielberg/Nolan magic combination.

That and not throw $250 million dollars into the film when it probably could be made for half that. They've got to stop pretty much killing the chances of sequels before these movies are even released.

As for this, hopefully it turns out to be good, but we obviously know nothing about it yet.

Seeing as the critics are already calling John Carter a western, I don't think Disney should create another Sci-Fi movie whose name is the same as the hero of a late-1950s TV western, "Have Gun, Will Travel" with Richard Boone.

And since "Cowboys & Aliens" was also a disaster, I think Disney (or any studio) needs to stay away from anything that might be construed to be a Western.

Big budget and bad marketing on release anyone?

Risky strategy to be taking unless they learn their lessons, control the budgets better and actually market the thing correctly.

Agreed 100%.

The first thing I thought when I read the title of this thread: "Disney's making a straight-up western?!? Wow!!!"

This will likely be poorly marketed....it's already been poorly named.
