Inspired by the ugly Blu-Ray artwork thread as there are DVD cases that have better covers than their Blu-Ray counterpart.
For me: ![]() Casino Royale - Not only is the thick box sweet, but it doesn't have the stupid "Experience High Definition" banner censoring Bond's gun! Crash - The Director's Cut DVD had Special Features (Blu-Ray was bare bones) on Disc 2 plus it didn't have LionsGate's lame "silver spine". ![]() Gladiator - Much better than the Extended Edition cover they recycled for the Blu-Ray. ![]() Halloween (2007) - Best Buy had an exclusive holographic slipcase featuring the theatrical poster. Superior to the closeup of Michael's face on the BR. ![]() Iron Man - The BR cover is fine, but I'm a sucker for Steelbooks, but I got the DVD version since I refused to pay top dollar to import the BR steelbook. I usually put spare DVDs in the BD cases. But my few exceptions are:
Both "Appleseed" DVD Steelbooks. "Apocalypto" DVD Steelbook (UK Steelie, American DVD and BD) "Blade Runner" Ultimate Edition Briefcase; enough room for both DVD and BD. "The Boondock Saints" DVD Steelbook. "The Breed" DVD Steelbook. "Death Proof" and "Planet Terror" BB Exclusive DVD Steelbooks. "Dune" Extended Edition DVD Steelbook. "FLCL" Ultimate Collection box set; plenty of room for both the DVDs and Blu-Ray set. "Immortal" DVD Steelbook. "RoboCop" DVD Steelbook. "Trinity Blood" Complete Collection box set; it's just too damn pretty to get rid of. "Troy" DVD Director's Cut Edition; has room for both DVD and BD. |

None...all of my Blu-ray titles are in the Blu-ray cases.
If I already have the title on DVD and then buy the Blu-ray of the same title, I take the DVD version and trade it in at my local used media store to try and pick up some additional Blu-ray movies...if I swapped around the discs in the cases I wouldn't be able to do that. |

I would never house a Blu-ray in a DVD case, no matter how much nicer the boxart is. It's bad enough that my digibooks stand out on my shelves, having DVD cases in there would bug the hell out of me. I tend to get rid of a DVD movie I replace on Blu-ray as soon as possible.
I have done the opposite though, like putting DVD's in a Blu-ray case if the special features were more robust. I did this for The Devil's Rejects for example, it's now a 3-Disc set. ![]() |

You wouldn't like my shelves then. All my Blus are alphabetized in with my DVDs.

I have put DVDs in BD cases, but not BDs in DVD cases. For example, I wanted all of the extras for Predator so I put Disc 2 of the DVD in with the 2008 release. That way I didn't have to buy Predator: The Ultimate DNR Edition to get the extras. I did the same with Disc 2 of the Master & Commander 2 Disc DVD set.

I almost DIED when I accidently bought TOY STORY 2 in a DVD case instead of blu. I actually brought it back and exchanged it for the other case.
I too have placed certain DVD's inside blu cases IF teh dvd has extra features NOT found on the blu. But I must confess...... My 'Chitty, Chitty, Bang Bang' bluray went into my DVD case which is a special edition with it's own digibook and extra open-wide cover with a map inside. Also, my 'I AM LEGEND' bluray went inside my DVD steelcase. I sinply store them at the front of my blu collection on the shelf, next to my blu digibooks. I still have KEPT the blu cases, JUST IN CAE I later change my mind. |
