Does anyone have any insight into which directors might receive Criterion box sets during 2021 and 2022? I found a 2017 post on IMDB listing directors with the most individual releases. The list below is not up-to-date but gives a general sense of who might be on the horizon. Of course, the number of individual release is not the only or best criteria. Who has rights to the film(s) is also key, among others, such as whether the director is still releasing films.
Truffaut was born in 1932, so maybe he gets a box set in 2022? I’m also wondering if there is a Chaplin box set on the horizon. Chaplin is not on the list, below, but I think Criterion has released around 8 of his films. ~20+ films 1. Bergman (box set) ~17 films 2. Kurosawa 3. Malle ~11-14 films 4. Ozu 5. Godard 6. Fellini (box set) 7. Renoir ~9-10 films 8. Misumi 9. Powell 10. Buñuel 11. Fassbinder 12. Melville 13. Rossellini 14. Truffaut |
