Very excited to get this on blu ray.

This was released on DVD as a double feature with The Queen of Spades. The DVD has been long OOP though.

Well, that didn't take Kino long to start announcing titles from their new SC deal.

They probably were like "Can you have the people on that blu ray forum stop guessing? Just start announcing some titles".

Kino has been on fire lately. Really glad to have them in the physical media mix.

Kino Lorber is the ultimate “great Saturday afternoon movies” label.

I'm looking forward to this one.

This is terrific news, a stone-cold horror classic and my favorite omnibus film. I first saw this as a pre-adolescent and it really spooked me, though I did develop an instant crush on Sally Ann Howes (perhaps better known as the aptly named Truly Scrumptious in CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG) in the haunted room episode. The B&W cinematography by Douglas Slocombe (perhaps best known for shooting the first three Indiana Jones films, though he has a myriad number of great films to his credit) should look beautiful on Blu!

That really is an odd blurb on that vintage poster "A thriller...the critics hugged it!"...uuuh, thanks for the info Walter Winchell!

This is a very welcome announcement by Kino. I have the Region B Studio Canal release, which isn't bad in terms of A/V quality so it's my hope that a 4K remaster will result in a significant upgrade.

Haven't seen it but it looks cool and I've heard good things. Another blind buy from Kino for me! What keeps me coming back are their consistently good commentaries. You get an entertaining history lesson along with nearly every movie they put out.

That’s what makes me interested about this SC deal...the compression wars.

This is the finest omnibus horror film ever made, and the only one with a wraparound story that is just as good as the other stories and that integrates perfectly. Day one buy for me.

Holy shit! i always enjoyed this one since i saw it on PBS when i was 4 in 85 and one of my fave anthology films.

I mean this movie is influential to many things like E.C. comics, various anthology films even to Creepshow to all the way to shows like Twilight Zone.

This doesn't say NEW 4k restoration, so I'm waiting to see how it compares to the UK version which I just watched. The audio has always been an issue, I'm guessing it will still be problematic.

I imagine it's going to be more or less a port of the Vintage Classics disc. I haven't seen the title but what is the audio problem? Sync issues?

I have the British blu-ray is very good. The audio problem is pervasive noise floor throughout. It's been a part of the picture since I first saw it on TV as a kid. I suspect it's not removable, but I suppose they could filter it a bit.

Was the U.K. version from a 4K restoration?

The original SC press release didn't mention if it was 4K. I would suspect that it was from a 4K scan with a workflow perhaps done in 2K.

Likewise, I have the SC version and think it's average. Fingers crossed.
