Default Star Trek, Original Series

George Takei talked on Stern this morning about the original series of Star-Trek being remastered.... I'm guessing a Blu-ray release may be in the future.

I thought the old Star Treks were funny, and the cheesy-factors might make them worth owning (kinda like Batman's POW-BOOM-ZING ) I have to admit I didn't watch the show too much, and never saw the movies, but I'll catch a re-run occassionally, and find them entertaining.

Haha I heard that on the stern show too. I'm really hoping Takei returns to the third season of Heroes

If they try to force it to 16X9 it will suck big time. I don't see how they could accomplish it other than zooming then cropping. Terrible.

Unless for some odd reason this series was actually shot on film rather than video, what can they do to actually make it look better than the current DVD release? Video source from that era generally just isn't good enough.

They did a shit-ton to improve the picture. At first they were just adding in CGI models in place of the static effects done for the original filmings, but they went into each frame and cleaned it up digitally and made it look at least Star Trek TNG video quality. I expect the Blu-ray release to be a port of the HD-DVD release but with out the DVD side.

It's been running on syndie stations for the last two-to-three years, and both the CG and the original tweaked-PQ look pretty darn spiffy on the digital affiliates--
S1 and 2 are already on SD (for lack of HD-combo), they've already announced Season 3 for November, and Blu is still "being talked about".

There, hope that bit of update helps bring a Stern fan into the 21st century...

The HD-DUD version of TOS was in 4:3 (black bars on the sides) so I don't think the BD version will be forced to 16X9. The only thing different was the new CGI effects and the cleaned up picture, but that was about it.

The cleaner picture would be nice. It's good if they leave the original aspect ratio alone. Just not sure about the addition of the CGI effects. Sounds like what they did toi the original Star Wars trillogy. I still prefer those they way they were w/o the CGI crap.

It is, they did, and they work. (As you can see.)
Any other questions?

So, I can appreciate that their local-station airings might not have been advertised, but haven't some fans at least found them in the last two years?--
No, seriously...And not the Sci-Fi Channel airings, either.

Since I already have a 3 sets on DVD, I guess I'll probably rent one or 2 on Blu when they come out and see if it's worth the double dip.

The HD DVD version was a masterpiece. I welcome it to blu hopefully soon. I like the way they cleaned up the effects and the picture.

What I want to know is, will it come out on Blu-Ray with the phazer thingy too?

Because that's why a shitton of HD-DED fans were trying to convince people to buy it for when it came out there.
