As I gather, the problem was due to the Ethernet "Network interaction" that Dreamworks was hoping to exploit on HD-DVD...

Probably the least requested bonus--and the one that HD-DVD was depending on to sell the entire format--and it crashed the disk beyond what even the sound issue could do. Nice.

I have never had a bad experience like that with any of my Blu-rays. I did the latest firmware update for the PS3, and everything plays without a hitch. Not saying it couldn't happen in the future, it just seems like Sony has a better update system.

I thought it classic, a HD-DVD supporter has a problem and he is attacked by his own side, how sad is that!

He's sorta a supporter of both sides from his post...he was showing one on HD DUD and then the concert on Blu-ray. But I agree, not the best way to get supporters to continue supporting that format.

Damn, you beat me to it.

Seriously, can you imagine it? You invite a bunch of people over, your DUD doesn't play, and you try to boil the disc while they wait? If his guests were hurling insults at him for having to power cycle the player several times, just what kind of insults that will bring to our poor host....

I know I shouldn't wish misfortunes to people, but I simply canno't resist. May all HD-DUD supporters be embarassed in front of their guests until they give up on the format. The grass is greener (and the players are more reliable) over here.

enjoy

It seems that both sides are going to have these kind of problems on different hardware at different times. I am not sure if it is something to be excited about, in the beginning everybody has to wait for firmware updates to fix issues that pop up.

I guess I do not read enough from the HD-dvd side to see that they point out ever issue that Blu-ray has to think this is a big deal. Is this a big debating point for them?

In regards to the Smackdown on newbies, why do the HD-DVD-faithful partake in this so frequently? OK: so he's Blu-biased. So what? You're Red-biased. Should your posts be auto-deleted, then?
The best line of the post, IMHO.
