Disappointed that there's no 4K release - this one looks freaking beautiful and was even finished with a 4K DI. Missed opportunity.

Disgrace they snubbed this film at the Academy Awards. Day 1 with no hesitation.

It did get a well-deserved Adapted Screenplay nomination, at least. That can't be said about many other films.

I wouldn't say it was snubbed. It's not a top 15 movie of the year.

I mentioned it in the Oscar thread that IMO this film will be remembered more than any film nominated 10 years from now. Since The Room has a cult following, The Disaster Artist will be appreciated and not forgotten. It's tied to The Room. It did get 1 nomination for screenplay, so it didn't get totally shut out. Franco yes he was amazing in the film, but the Academy voters obviously gave him the cold shoulder.

Hoping this gets a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release as release details are still early.

Anyway Franco should obviously be proud of this film, a great movie stands out on it's own and doesn't need an Oscar to make it great.

The Oscars don't want the same controversy as the Golden Globes, so they took the safe option and snubbed him.

Snubbing him based on unproven allegations, rather than focusing on his talent, shows that you can't take the Oscars seriously.

“Unproven”. Hahahahaha.

He tried to hook up with a teenager, there are screenshots of the entire conversation. This plus all the first hand accounts, what does it take for you to believe women?

Also the Golden Globes did not have controversy as an organization. Franco did, because he wore a pin he clearly did not endorse.

The GG didn't have controversy because the Franco headlines only gained traction after he'd won. Different situation for the Oscars.

And I can believe women and still not think a man's life should be destroyed btw. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Most of these #MeToo allegations, including others against Franco, are unproven however and I still believe in the quaint concept of innocent until proven guilty. Blasphemy in the social media age, I know.

Yes, because an attractive Hollywood star looking to hook up with a 17 year old is in the same league as a middle aged lawyer trolling backwater Alabama malls for much younger girls. Franco was 35 at the time btw, not 40.

The theater I work at only had this movie for a week back in December, after A24 had canceled it the previous week. It looks like almost all their Oscar campaigning efforts are dedicated to Lady Bird. The Florida Project has also largely been forgotten, and only got one nomination. In some ways, this is a similar film to I, Tonya, which got three noms, including Best Actress, helped by it being the only film Neon had a campaign for.

I’ll still pick this up, and I do agree that it might become a cult film itself one day, along with I, Tonya.

If you want to frame it as him trying to sex a "teenager" go ahead, but the truth is he tried to hook up with a 17 year old girl from the UK that was about to turn 18 . The girl also seemed open to meeting him when she did in fact turn 18. The age of consent is 17 in NY btw, and 16 in the UK, so there wasn't even anything illegal about this.

Why did you put "teenager" in quotes?

I don't think the teenager stuff really matters, she as you point out that's above the age of consent (plus was known about years ago). It's more the LA Times article, and particularly the way he treated women on his sets which is concerning.

Granted he has denied those allegations and isn't at the level of a Weinstein obviously, but it's enough that given the tone of the year would've been controversial for the academy. And while I really do think it should just be about the work (I'm glad Casey Affleck won last year, and would've nominated Nate Parker and Franco as well, despite a really ugly scandal with the former, since I thought those were great performances), I can understand why some voters want to keep away from that. I wouldn't be surprised if Casey Affleck also comes up with a filming or promotional scheduling conflict that keeps him from presenting this year.

But anyway back to the Blu, hope there are a lot of features on this, cause it seems like it could have some amazing extras (including the 20+ minutes of The Room they recreated).
