Default Well they ruined Robocop

Just disgusting

http://moviepilot.com/#566205-how-th...stream=popular

a piece of the article

They did it, they actually went full Michael Bay; and as everyone knows, you never go full Michael Bay. RoboCop is a ‘Transformer’, what the hell is that? Well, there you have it. Hollywood is murdering Mortal Kombat, they’ve made the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles aliens, and now they’ve taken a big steaming dump all over RoboCop. Let’s hope that they scrap this script, or majorly rework it. José Padilha is a great action director and could work wonders with the concept, especially with a cast like this. Just please, give him a decent script to work with, one worthy of the RoboCop legacy!

It's good that they are messing up remakes. It gives more respect to the originals. I always loved Total Recall but now I see it as an sci-fi/action masterpiece thanks to the new one.

I'm not necessarily gonna complain about the movie overall, I'm still going to give it a chance, but I really hope this ends up being some sort of joke, I'm a Transformer? No! just no!

The whole 'transformer' thing sounds more along the lines of a built-in Iron Man suit not that it really matters, I suppose.

If a remake sticks too closely to the original people will complain that there is no need for the remake.

If a remake strays too far from the original people will complain that it's ruining the original.

If a movie about a robot cop isn't named RoboCop people will complain that it's ripping off RoboCop.

An if a movie about a robot cop isn't really about a robot cop but looks at techology and society in a way that is too thoughtful or too original people will just stay home.

So really, what difference does it make if the robot cop can change into a helicopter or a toaster or whatever?

Some people will never be satisfied.

If this were a play by play recreation, people will cry "Foul!"

If this follows a similar plotline with subtle differences, people will cry "Foul!"

If this strays too far from the original, people will cry "Foul!"

"His suit looks too different." "It's like a Transformer!" "He's too much like Iron Man." "His suit looks too much like the original"

For the time being I'm looking forward to it. And depending on how I feel about the movie based on their marketing (trailers and such), I'll go watch it. And if the movie sucks...oh well!

But I'm not going to about it. Crap, aside from an ED-209, I haven't even seen anything yet.

The changes to the plot aren't the problem. It's that apparently the script actively mocks the original. There's no need for that.

Putting their own spin on the movies is one thing, that's fine(like Spiderman), but to completely change the story and the character's ability(I guess that's the word I am looking for) is different. I mean to make the guy essentially a TRANSFORMER, that's not gonna do anything good, the kids that never saw Robocop will say "Hey this is a transformers ripoff" and hate it, thus more than likely not be willing to go back and watch the original if they are turned towards it's existence.

Robocop 3 was beyond terrible-you can actually see the cables on robocop as he flies into the room at the end of the film.

You know there is a thread for the movie? But I guess two threads pissing and moaning about it are better then one.

Perfect video to describe this.

The original is such a good film, they will never better it. The same went for Total Recall. Why pick a film that was already done extremely well?

Seriously, we're basing all this on a bunch of tweets by some guy who flipped through the script? It sounds like he's making a big deal out of nothing.

RoboCop going from "social mode" to "combat mode" sounds more like a programming thing to me; there's nothing that indicates that he'll physically "transform." If anything, this is more like "The Terminator," in the way he tracks enemies and goes from normal tracking mode to all-out killing mode.

I definitely agree that making it PG-13 is an epic fail.

The other details don't bother me that much. RoboCop being made in China? It makes sense (although Japan would be better yet ). Seriously, when was the last time the US produced something on its own soil (especially in Detroit)? Dropping RoboCop in Al Queda territory? I actually want to see that; it soulds wicked!

Also, this pic of ED-209 looks awesome!

I'm still willing to give the remake a try. Yes, the original is awesome, and chances are that the remake might not do it any justice. Chances are that it'll suck. But why judge that on these scant details? I'll make my judgment on the final product.

Robocop 3 was a travesty on release. Probably good for a couple of unintentional laughs and thats it.

I liked Robocop 2...yeah its not as good as the original of course but its so damn nasty!

Sounds like an interesting idea.

Well, that rating isn't nearly as restrictive nowadays ("Live Free or Die Hard", anyone?). I just don't want a ton of gore, sex, or extreme language in it, which is what put me off the first two. I liked the short-lived TV show on the Sci-Fi Channel, though.

Sadly, that's very true. "The Crow" creator James O'Barr lived in Detroit for 40 years, and told me he left because its a "ghost town" now.

It would take changing his basic directives a bit.

That it does; much better design than the clunky original.

Why a reboot and not just a sequel? I just watched the original again this week and it's still awesome. Can't this new movie take place many years after the first 3 movies? The original Robocop program is retired, crime has gone down in Delta City. But then some new criminal organisation comes in and ruins everything, They've got their hands on some old ED209's for example. thus there is need for a new ED209 and eventually a new RoboCop.

PG-13 also sucks, RoboCop needs to be brutal.
