Default Firmware 1.94 (not up yet)

So some may know as of now you can buy Ratchet & Clank Future. On that disc for the first time, contains the latest PS3 system software update.

The firmware version is 1.94 (hence the title) and some people already have it installed. The network version should be available later tonight or tomorrow.

-------------------------------------------------------------

There's no official change log yet but we do know that rumble support has been added.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Will update this thread as new info comes in. Not sure if this firmware will contain the BD support that was talked about earlier this month.

It's about time... If this FW update doesn't have the BD support, they'll need another update in a few days since 1.1 is mandatory by the end of October.

Some else posted the conspiricy-theory-esque comment that until profile 1.1 players are actually in stores, they wont do the same update to the PS3 so as to not piss off those CE manu's.

personally that wouldnt be biggie since I dont think their are 1.1 movies out yet. But I do hope they add that damn DTS-MA update soon.

Technicaly, only the 40GB has to have Profile 1.1 as it will be the only model of PS3 released after Oct. 31. I highly doubt Sony will give all the 20, 60, and 80GB model owners he shaft by NOT giving them the Profile 1.1 update, but they could.

If PS3 will support 1.1 it will be :

When Standalone do it (most of them), Paidgeek said earlier this year that PIP was working on the PS3 since last year, but they wait until their Parterns integrate it into theirs system, since they don't want to piss them off..

or

When FW 2.0 is released...

I realize you said "conspiracy-theory-esque", but that doesn't make any sense. The PS3 is the best selling Blu-Ray player on the market, why would they not give it the 1.1 update?

My guess it only patches rumble for the game. They never have firmware updated on the Discs first. Not even for the PSP.

Read the other comment. Actually I believe Paidgeek made it in the Insiders thread.

They dont want to piss off their partners by adding 1.1 before the others have theirs in stores. The PS3 is already by far the best value, and having BD features that standalones dont even have, well why would anyone (besides die hard game console haters) want a standalone? I think thats their logic.

Anyways if the 40gig is 1.1 then they have to release a firmware update. 40gig isnt out until Nov 2nd, and they could likely get away with a few days delay before putting out the firmware update for everyone else. They'll wait as much as possible.

I'm hoping for option 2, since I believe they'll be forced to call one of the updates 2.0 long before the stand-alones have it considering how all the CE manufacturers have either already pushed out their latest Blu-Ray players so as to avoid the 1.1 requirement or have delayed releasing them until next year. I guess it's sort a mote point since no disc actually has any 1.1 requiring features but it's sort of a chicken-egg thing. Why would anyone put 1.1 PiP on a disc when the vast majority (currently ALL) of BR owners couldn't make use of it?

Sorry, I think Sony should just release the PS3 update so that maybe all the other companies get off their collective a**es and put out complete spec Blu-Ray players. Hell, it would probably even be a good way for Sony to sell more PS3's if it was both one of the cheapest Blu-Ray players AND the only 1.1 compliant one (besides maybe that one dual-format one from I think LG that is supposed to come out before the end of the year).

I know someone will probably jump on soon and say how special features don't matter and that it's all about the movie. That's great for that person, but really, I'd like to see the technology being pushed forward not sitting stagnant. Otherwise, all the HD-DVD jabs about an incomplete spec and missing features really begin to have merit.

It is all about the movies, but I just like to see HD DVD's talking points get flushed down the toilet.

It is not that 1.1 is mandatory by November it is that all players released after 10/31 need to be 1.1 compliant. This is new players i.e new models.

The 40gb ps3 is due after this so will be 1.1 compliant - i personally cant imagine them having a different firmware version for the 40gb ps3 - as it is all other sizes all run on the same version... There will be an update for 1.1 for all ps3's before or on the 40gb's realease - thats my opinion...

does it say if enabling dual shock will only be for ps3 controllers...or ps2 controllers too? Don't feel like spending 60 bucks on a new controller

Back in the Insider's Thread (iirc), someone mentioned that it's all players *Certified* before November, so even the 40 GB wouldn't need to be 1.1.

It's odd being both a gamer and a blu-ray fan... I don't know whether to hope for 1.1 or in-game XMB in the next firmware update.

Couldn't agree anymore, the dualshock 3 compatibility is nice also. Maybe 2.0 will be early November, we will see. Or 1.1 could be included in 1.94 for all we know, we'll have to wait until tomorrow
