Last Resort (New Shawn Ryan Series) - Blu-ray Forum

Has anyone heard anything about this? Apparently, TV Line.com did a write-up on this new series that is debuting from ABC this fall.

Cast: Andre Braugher (Homicide), Scott Speedman (Felicity), Robert Patrick (The Unit), Daisy Betts (Person of Interest), Autumn Reeser (No Ordinary Family), Dichen Lachman (Dollhouse)

The Setup: Created by Shawn Ryan (The Shield, The Unit) and Karl Gajdusek, Last Resort stars Braugher as Marcus Chaplin, the captain of a submarine that, after offering a ride to a team of tight-lipped Navy SEALs, receives orders to launch missiles at Pakistan. Given the directive’s sketchy origin, Chaplin elects to ignore it, at which point the USS Colorado becomes the hunted. Chaplin charts a course for safe-ish harbor until he and his crew can glean what has gone wrong in the rest of the world. Speedman plays Chaplin’s XO, Patrick the book-abiding Chief of the Boat and Betts a lieutenant trying to lose her label as “an Admiral’s daughter” and gain respect. On the dry land side of things, Reeser plays a military tech honcho who suspects the Colorado has been targeted by its own country.

Sounds interesting and it's nice to see Robert Patrick back in action as a military officer.

It's stating in 1 month, and I have to admit that as far fetched (to put it mildly) as it sounds, I've always been a sucker for good Submarine Drama (cf Crimson Tide).

P.S: Ah, so that's why Scott Speedman had to turn down Underworld 4. Makes a lot more sense now, because if the show is successful, it's bread on the table for many years

I saw a small making of featurette of this at the movies, before the previews played. I think that was back in May.

If this show was on CBS I think it would be great. I just have a hard time believing a good military drama will work on ABC.

I just caught a sneak peek at the first episode. Yahoo has it up. Check it, it definitely has some promise:

I'd rather Shawn Ryan bring back "The Unit". It was a shame that that series was cancelled. It was one of my favorite TV shows. But, at least Robert Patrick is back for another Shawn Ryan TV series ... he really is a great character actor for military officers. Looks like he has another character that will have "spotty appearances throughout the series. lols

Caught the first episode. I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to see the pieces of the puzzle emerge. Hopefully it doesn't fizzle out like FlashForward.

Watched the pilot, quite liked it but it felt rushed (like so many pilots). A 2 hour pilot would have been better.

Guess since most of you already watched the pilot you didn't watch it again last night. I watched it for the first time last night and thought it was pretty good. Looking forward to seeing what they do next.

Watched this last night and loved it, felt like a movie. The only part that put me off a bit was at the end when Chaplin said this could be our new home, felt out of place or too early. Will be interesting to see how they turn this into a week by week show, it was just crazy enough!

It is not Sci-fi in the least. It is a military drama about a submarine crew who take over an island after an "incident".

Exactly... it's a little more dark, real gritty fictional drama. ABC has enough, by their standards, for sci-fi in Once Upon a Time... another genre series (not counting The Neighbors...) would be entering familiar territory of V, Invasion, etc...
