I am also curious. From what I could guess, it could be that for home video, just like avatar the video has been modified from 2.39 to 1.78 so that it fills up your 16:9 screen. Although note that there is a specific difference betwenen Avatar and this- Avatar was shot in 1.78 and then cropped to 2.35 to display in many theatres, hence the original was retained for home video. For Titanic, i doubt it was shot in 1.78. In case if at all was shot in 1.78, then buckle up for excitement we could be seeing more image on top and bottom. Alternative possibility (though pointless and wastage of space) is that of course a cropped 1.78 version from the original 2.35 by cutting the sides is possibly included on BD for filling up our widescreens. Probably why we have 2 2D BDs and 2 3D BDs. Note: All just guesses- cant say anything for sure. Anyone following the hollywood BD blogs on this topic?

It is now Officially Cnnfirmed thanks to Blu ray.com review. Titanic 3D version is 1.78:1 by vertically opening up the matte for Super 35. sadly, for those with 2D players, Titanic 2D vesion remains the same regular 2.35 on blu ray. |

True. But as I myself dont like 3D so much, for me, an additional version of 2D with 1.78 option wud have been so much more stellar. Just the thought of mising the additional vertical information available only in 3D version is a bit saddening by that bit. No big deal though.
