Epic Games has once again used the Game Developers Conference to show off Unreal Engine 4. In this new "Infiltrator" demonstration video, we're shown a gritty world that, while I don't think it showcases the visual fidelity of the engine as well as it could, does look like an interesting premise for a full game. According to Epic co-founder Mark Rein, the demo is running on a single, off-the-shelf NVIDIA GTX 680.
Although Unreal Engine games aren't tied down to one specific color palette, enough of them can be generally described as looking brown that a that common theme has emerged. That hasn't really changed here today with this demo, which is a bit of a letdown. Show us some color, Epic! http://www.destructoid.com/gdc-epic-...o-249970.phtml Last edited by Mavrick; 03-29-2013 at 07:19 PM. |

An extended trailer of Epics other Tech Demo "Elemental"
Last years version was running on a single Nvidia GTX680 card coupled with 16GB of RAM and a "recent" CPU, the developer said. This video is real time running n PS4 hardware. |

Well, it's running on approximation hardware. It's likely the 2.2GB dev kit. There is a chance it's on the recently released 4GB dev kit. Unoptimized, of course.

Likely, this was still using DirectX11 on the PS4 dev kit (just approximation hardware). That would wipe away at least half of the PS4's true ability. |

![]() Truth is, the hardwares like a massive powered car but with no ability to put all that power down on the road in the most efficient way: Optimised design for airflow Tyres Crank shaft, gearbox etc. correctly timed. In the same way, i lke to think of it as a 1000bhp Mustang vs a Bugatti Veyron. They Veyron will always do it with more finesse because it is technically refined. Now let's scale back the power, but keep refinement, Mustang 1000bhp (PC) vs Aventador 700bhp (PS4). Although underpowered by 300bhp, you can bet your butt the Lambo with launch control will plant all it's power down quicker and get away very quickly, and towards the end of the drag, the Mustang has caught up and marginally surpassed it, if at all. That's how PCs and consoles are and always will be by the look of things. I don't personally see the reason to gloat because there are some really great gaming experiences on JUST consoles, while i'm inclined to think very few of the ones i have wanted to play are only available on PCs. The advantages of a console far outweigh a PC for me personally, and that's why i use them, but others can go invest their money and buy into STEAM and they'll have just a great experience. |
