Default When will Sony give us a new PS3 Update?

It has been a while since the last update. And also there were only minor fixes.

What I am hardly missing is the following:

1.) Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio Bitstream output
2.) PIP feature (for the new announced Discs)
3.) 1080p Upscaling for SD content on Blu Ray Discs
4.) Video EQ

Are there any announcments for these? I've heard that PIP will be coming, but the other three (especially Nr. 1) are more important to me...

I've heard #1 is never happening, but I don't know if that's confirmed.

That's confirmed, at least for the current generation of PS3's (and most likely the 40GB's as well). The PS3 has TrueHD decoding already and DTS-HD MA is rumored to be in the works, so not all is lost if you want to send PCM over HDMI to your receiver.

enjoy

...it upscales DVDs for me no problem, but with SD content (special features and such) on Blu-ray discs...it doesn't, my resolution goes back to 480i when I select them, unlike DVDs where it stays at 720p.

I think we're overdue for an update as well. We're officially in Profile 1.1 and we need the PS3 to be the first 1.1 player out on the market, considering I've only seen the new panasonic and a dual format player that have been announced.

well thats because on the blu-ray version of movies they cant use up to much space just to have a special feature in HD this especially includes for Hd-Dvd. but if you want to see your extras in HD then just keep the dvd version you have.

yeah the ps3 is overdue for an update and yeah we need that 1.1 profile capability and soon

What I'm saying is that I don't see why the PS3 doesn't upscale SD content on a blu-ray, since it upscales the content on a regular DVD.

I know that the special features would take up more room, it's just that I don't know why the PS3 doesn't upscale them, like all other SD media.

but since its blu-ray which is HD to begin with what would be the point on upscaling the special features? its either HD or SD no upscale

Sunshine is already released in the UK, so if the UK disc has the PiP feature, they really need to get the 1.1 PS3 update out.

I also don't understand why the PS3 doesn't upscale SD content (typically the extras) on BD as it does for SD on DVD.
Apart from the quality increase, if everything was upscaled to 1080p, it would also remove the annoying problem of switching resolutions. My Pioneer Plasma doesn't respond instantly to the change, and refuses to stay in dot-by-dot mode, so I often have to set this manually.
A little thing, but annoying non-the-less !

like i just said upscaling on a BD or Hd-dvd would be pointless because if its on a hd format disc already then having extras in HD would just take up to much room

I'm not saying that the extras should be in HD on the disc.
I am saying that the PS3 should upscale the on disc SD content to HD in real-time on playback, as it does for DVD.

Once again...the PS3 upscales DVD content to 1080p correct?

So why can't it upscale 480i special features on a blu-ray disc to 1080p?

Changing resolutions is annoying for me as well, projector has to adjust and it takes a moment.
