Default Young Guns (1988)

Anyone buy Young Guns...how does it look? We all know it's old, but does it hold up any? or is it a DVD look-a-like?

Thanks!

I had this in my hand yesterday... Was going to pick it up, but decided to wait on some first hand impressions.

Brian that's not old. (Old would be Dracula or Nosferatu ).
I saw it on the Cinema and at the time I thought it looked excelent and sharp. (The openingcredits is very stilized grainy if I recall correctly). And that was a print!

If the BD looks like that it be amazing. Hope when I get the BD it doesn't dissapoint me.

Got it Tues and it does look good, but the std dvd with upconvert was also a good showing. I still am pleased with the upgrade and glad I bought it.

I also got Rambo First Blood and that was a great transfer. I took the time to compare the BD and std dvd upconvert. I was very pleased.

yeah, 15x2 +2

I got a grey hair for every year...

I know 88 doesn't seem old, but alot of source material even from the 90's isn't holding up too well it seems.

I bought it yesterday at Wal-Mart for 19.88. The print is pretty clean and artifact free for the most part. Some of the lens flares are very sharp. Sometimes, it seems like the image is too soft. This is on a 65" Toshiba @ 1080i on a PS3. I haven't seen this movie in about 10 years and I was very happy with it.

I can't imagine any of the blu ray titles not looking great. I have Blazing Saddles and this flick looks remarkably crystal considering how long ago it was made (not saying its "old" or relatively old). I figure if you see a movie, don't have it yet, blu ray it. But hey. What do I know? I am just offering a penny worth of opinion. heh.

Just watched Young Guns this morning. I was pleased with the picture quality but did notice a few problems, Picked up Last Samurai yesterday as well and it totally blew Young Guns away in the pq department. I would give Young Guns a 3.5 to 4 at the most. That said it was still a good purchase, no regrets. Worth the $19.99 price from Target who get them from Amazon.

What was wrong with the pq?

Has anyone else watched this yet?

I have, just a quick look. The opening b/w toned grain sequence doesn't seem to look as sharp and grainy as the film once did, but the rest of the film looks fine some shots looks great (when Billy doesn't trust one of his Regulators by the lake/creek for example!), some look a little bit soft (specially until the title credits end at the beginning when we first meet Billy) but most of it looks fine enough. Now I did notice some slight artifacting so maybe the HD master isn't the newest one I think it doesn't reach 1920 maybe 1440, or 960? But as it is a 16:9 image, if you sit farther away than me (and you all do) you won't notice it. Or with a 720p. I'm happy with it. I love the movie with the crazy Billy and Dick Grayson twin brothers

The opening credits have a wavering to them. There was a couple times i saw this and it was distracting. Overall a good pick up, no regret.

i don't see anyone else complaining too much about the quality of this film, but i just got it and it has the same aliasing problem as lethal weapon 2 did for me, although not quite as bad. I can see distinct aliasing blockies on every scene (opening credits are most obvious)...i had to check to make sure it wasn't the SD version by mistake...maybe it's just this copy, i dunno....good thing i netflix'ed it and didn't buy it...

It's been almost five frakkin' years since this hit blu. I'd really like to see a remaster now, thank-you-very-much!

May not be pretty but if you want it, the time is now. It's on Wal-mart's website for 6 dollars. Free shipping with site to store. I have heard bad things but consdiering it's still better than the DVD and the price im going to have to bite.

It's barely better than the DVD in terms of PQ and AQ. It needs a lot of work for a re-release particularly a new master.
