k, this might sound really weird or it might be a good idea.
I am going to buy an Onkyo 805 and a set of Polk Audio RTi-A9's. Now the RTi A9's can take up to 500 watts...and as we all know the Onkyo only outputs 130 watts/per channel, So I have an old receiver that is still decent and has 250 watts just for a sub woofer, is there anyway I could possibly rewire the other receiver so that I have the 250 watts from the sub and the available 90 watts per channel already there. ![]() Yea so I might have confused you a bit. ![]() Thanks in advance. No My sub is powered, I am not worried about my sub I am worried about my Towers, They can handle 500 watts but my onkyo only has 130, so I was wondering if I could hook up 2 receivers to my towers and get both receivers to feed the speakers.
I know it sounds weird but it would also give me my 7.2 sound that I was wanting. Thanks I know I am a bit confusing. ![]() Pred... |

NO then. the wattage output to speakers is not a continuous thing, that is how speakers work. You can hook-up a straight 300wts to the speakers but your just going to get noise, one very loud hump. & it is never good to peak out speakers, that is how you blow them up. + having 2 recievers, well they would have to be perfectly synchronized with each other. I don't know if the Onkyo can put out a true 130wts but that is a lot of power if it can How big is the room??? Last edited by clyon; 11-04-2007 at 06:19 PM. |

Watts and Watts RMS are two different things...sort of like contrast and dynamic contrast.
Watts by itself is the peak...RMS is continuous power. (although there is argument that RMS is meaningless or misused) Last edited by crackinhedz; 11-04-2007 at 07:01 PM. |

Nope, you can't do that unless you can configure your old receiver to act strictly like an amplifier. If you really wanted more than 130 watts RMS into some or all of your seven available channels, then you would want to get separate amps for the channels that you need extra power for, and then run the pre-outs on your receiver to the amps; using your receiver more like a prepro than a receiver.
Usually, the mains and center channel are going to be more power hungry than the rest of your channels, so you probably want to focus more of your amplification stage to those channels, and less power to your surrounds. |

So, If I hook up another amp, do I use both the receiver and the amp for connections to the speaker? as in do I have speaker cable running from the the receiver to speaker as well as the amp to the speaker? I dunno I just want a hell of a sounding stereo and Home theater experience.
Would a onkyo 805 be enough to power Polk Lsi15 towers? or do I need another amp? Pred. |

You could get a second onkyo 605, synchhronize it with the other and then bi-amp your speakers (if they are bi-amp ready).. but that will cost you much and my option did not include your old receiver..
check this link if you want to know more about bi-amp http://sound.westhost.com/bi-amp.htm Quote:

Ahh see I was under the impression that I would need more power if I were to buy these speakers. does it benefit them at all to have more power or what would that benefit be? |

I looked at the description of the speakers and they recommend:
Recommended Amplifier Power: 20 - 250 w/channel However for the onkyo product: Power : 7x140W max. (6 ohms, 1 kHz, IEC) Nominal Impedance of the LSi15: 4 ohms I'm not sure if its really a problem, I fonud this but it hasn't answered all of my questions... http://www.audioholics.com/education...r-or-amplifier Good louck with all that, seriously I don't think I know enough to help you.. hope that someone else does and could recommended you an appropriate receiver.. |
