![]() My 1st. inkling of Guillermo del Toro was when I found out about 'The Strain'. Consequently I went & ordered right away his trilogy on 'The Strain'. Can't wait to see 'The Strain' on tv! ![]() Last edited by hagios; 07-06-2013 at 09:37 PM. |

Rather see him try and get the Mountains of Madness back off the ground again....what a disappointment it was when the studio decided not to proceed.
I am sure he will make an interesting Frankenstein movie, but I would rather see something original that the umpteenth remake of Frankenstein. |

I'm more interested in the "gothic horror" Crimson Peak. Pan's Labyrinth is my personal favorite from him so I'd love more original creatures and original stories. IMDB lists a "dark" remake of Pinocchio which you'd think would've been mentioned. As much as I am tired of remakes, I will still probably check out his takes on that and Frankenstein.

While an original take on Frankenstein might be interesting, I can't imagine what they could bring to it that hasn't already been done. The Coppola version stuck much closer to the novel, but wasn't that great, in spite of DeNiro. There was a TV movie version that was also closer to the book, but also wasn't terrific.
If you attempt to make it look like the 1930s films, it will seem campy and probably remind everyone of Mel Brooks' "Young Frankenstein". When I watch "Son of Frankenstein", I always start to laugh because the Brooks film took so much from it. But if you make it modern, which could be believable if placed slightly in the future with all the advances in both robotics and stem cell research, it could just wind up being "meh". But DelToro does have a great imagination. A Frankenstein with the creativity and intellect of "Pan's Labyrinth" and the humor of "Hellboy" could be spectacular. |

![]() I agree. Given all that you've said, it'll have to be a really unique and creative director to make Frankenstein into something new and refreshing. Everything else has been done before. |
