Default PS3 media playback

So, we can store music and photos on our PS3's, but videos? Either from our digital cameras or camcorders?

What video formats is PS3 likely to support? I would assume it will be the same as PSP, to aid connectivity between the 2 devices.

So that means Mpeg4. But my digital camera records in AVI files. Will I be able to play these back, and will the PS3 convert them if I want to transfer them to PSP?

Anyone heard anything about this side of the PS3? I was hoping I would be able to burn HD videos onto a DVD to play on PS3, outputting at 720p, etc. Xbox360 can do this using wmv-hd files, but will PS3 be able to do someting similar? Maybe quicktime HD files?
