I am going to sell my current sub(Velodyne Deq10r) in a few weeks and am looking to upgrade to a sub that costs 1500$ or less.
The Svs PB12-plus is at the top of my list, but would like some other insight to other internet direct subs or dealer only subs. |

Howdy CantonMan,
I heard a saying, " can't go wrong with SVS subs" now with that outta the way, I need to ask ya a few questions. a: how big is the space - sealed/open b: movies/music % c: how bass friendly is your space, any major peaks or nulls Last edited by hyghwayman; 04-24-2014 at 12:06 AM. |

I had a SVS PB13 ultra which I thought was great for movies but not as great for music. I returned it and tried a HSU VTF-15h which I kept and love. Sounds great for both movies and music and the cherry finish is just beautiful. I looked at your gallery (which looks great by the way) and a nice cherry sub in the corner would look fantastic with those speakers and entertainment center.

In that price range, you could also look at Power Sound Audio and Rythmik as well as Outlaw Audio and HSU. You should also consider using a sub riser(or two if you get dual subs). It should help decouple the bass from the carpeting and help tighten it up too.

What I didn't like was I had the sub setup and would watch a movie (The fish tank scene from Finding Nemo stands out) and the glasses in the kitchen would be shaking, it was awesome. Then I would switch to music (something bass heavy like dance music) and I could barely tell the sub was working. I'd walk over and feel it to make sure. Not sure if it was due to limitations in my setup or was a characteristic of the sub but either way I returned it.
I don't want to sound like I'm bad mouthing SVS though because the build quality of the sub was top notch and so was the customer service. It just didn't work out for me. Last edited by zebracatzebra; 04-25-2014 at 11:55 AM. |

Thats the same problem, im having with my current sub. Movies shake the house and then music is very underwhelming on most mixes to the point were I run my bookshelf's full range with a lot more punch and that is why I am upgrading!
Is it possible that we both have nulls in the mid-bass frequency range based on where our subs are placed? (was your pb13 placed in the same location as your current vtf15?) |

I would play a song with a steady bass line and move around the room and yes there were some nulls but even when I wasn't in one I was missing that feeling I was after. When I put the mid 1990's 12" Infiniti subwoofer I was replacing in back in the same spot I had better music bass. I think that's what made me say screw this I'm trying something else.
I even tried dual 12" subs which I liked because there were no noticeable nulls in the room, the music sounded good, and movies sounded good. However I wanted everything to sound great, not just good, which is why I went to a 15" sub. |

I would look at Rythmik, great product and very responsive even when I was not buying anything, they were very nice. I made the mistake and bought a HSU, very poorly made and they are more interested in sticking it too you than selling you anything. Just my 2 cents.
