Guess the film is making its HD disc debut in the UK of all places. Bizarre that it was only released on DVD in Japan

Release by Arrow Films

Specs:
Quote:
Video: 1080p AVC 1.85:1
Audio: Japanese DTS-HD MA 5.1, Japanese DTS 2.0
Subtitles: English (Forced)
Time: 130 mins
Region: B Locked
BD: 50GB
Extras:
Making Of Departures (720p)
Encoffinment Featurette (720p)
Theatrical Trailer (1080p)
It is Region B Locked. When the disc is put in a Region A player (and PC drive), the player just returns to the top screen without any Region code warning. Playback on a Region B machine is fine.

Review:
PQ - 4.5/5
The picture quality is pretty much identical to the theatrical print I saw some months ago. Facial detail and color is strong. Pretty grain heavy movie (especially on certain shots). There is some minor print damage throughout which is really the only problem. Blacks were spot on. No black crush or DNR I could notice.
AQ - 4/5
Dialogue was clear. No real struggle to hear dialogue. Music is clear and well separated. Only gripe was with the LFE. Although most of the movie is dialogue driven, there were certain scenes I expected the LFE to be strong and it sadly was not. This was my real major problem with the audio.
Subtitles: 5/5
Subtitles are forced with the audio tracks. Color: White. Does not clash with any of the snow scenes. Easy to read and free of grammatical errors.

Movie takes up 31.2GB of the disc. Disc size in total is 35.1GB.

Just curious: anybody got the new edition from Arrow and compared it with the old one?

Surely it will just be a packaging change if it's a new edition? Don't see why they would want to re-author this release to slip in some extras on an old release, and if it was a new presentation of the film they would have no doubt promoted it more significantly.

Has Arrow ever re-encoded a movie for a reissue? None that I can think. It's unlikely that this one is any different.

The new disc has optional subtitles rather than burned in ones for the original disc

Well if that's the case then it must be a re-encode at the very least! Now I'm curious as to whether there might be any improvements (even it is just fractional down to the new compression).
