Default Will 'Departures' see a U.S. release?

Any word on Departures, or Okuribito, directed by Yojiro Takita and winner of the Academy Award for best foreign film, getting a release date?

There is an Amazon placeholder, so maybe it might come out after its short theatrical release, but there has been nothing announced. Personally, I hope Eureka-Masters of Cinema release get the home video rights in the UK and releases a Blu-ray.

Yea, my mistake. I failed to notice that it actually hasn't even been theatrically released yet... Opens May 29, 2009.

All signs seem to point to not happening any time soon. Only Blu-ray version that has been announced is the French version. It does not seem Regent is not interested in releasing this or Tokyo Sonata on either DVD or Blu-ray in the US.

And I have no idea who owns the UK rights...

with the film not having a Japanese bluray, it does seem a little unlikely for the states to get one first.

How great would that be if Criterion did the release for this?
