Default [JP] Tekkon Kinkreet Blu-ray Bound

CD Japan is listing a new anime movie with a bit of an international flair to it:

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=ANSX-5022

The movie premiered in Japan at the end of 2006 and is something of a joint venture with France. No specs listed yet.

I'm looking forward to this one. I like the animation style and Studio 4C
has done some nice stuff before. I'd love to see a BD release of Mind Game.

Tekkon Kinkreet

More anime in Japan. If only there were released here. No info on subs but it looks doubtful.

Tekkon looks...weird. While it is made in Japan the animation style looks very different from what we're used to seeing from there. Here's the official site for it to give you an idea:

http://tekkon.net/index.html

For some strange reason it's not listed on AV Watch - I guess they must have missed the PR.

It's different because I don't think the director or producer or someone is Asian. If you look at the home page, there is a picture of him and he is clearly western, French maybe? Although, I could be looking at the wrong guy...

I believe that's the director, Michael Arias:

I will import almost any anime BD that is released with English subs. It is so dissapointing to me that releases like Identity get subbed in every language imaginable, but they can't even include English subs on Japanese BD releases.

I took 3 semesters of Japanese in college, but still need the subs because people talk too fast, and I still miss alot of nuance

What I would like to see on anime are the Hokuto No Ken 2007 and 2008 remakes on Blu-ray.

None of this makes any difference to me because I can't understand them without subs at least, and so I won't waste my money on them.

We can only hope someone will release in the US. Why a title like Akira wouldn't be released over here I'll never know...

I just recalled this looks to be in the same animation style as the great classic short "The Cat". I recommend everyone who hasn't seen that one, pick it up. It's great stuff.

Akira is being released in Japan on BD, but the reason it's not being done for the US is that Geneon currently holds those rights. Ultimately they'll probably do a HD release it in some flavor but right now the US anime distributors are keeping their money and cards close until it's actually profitable for them to release something. The one exception to that is BV USA, but they're weird and don't seem to base their marketing strategy on their releases actually turning a profit.

and p.s. how many posts do I need before I'm allowed to create threads?

I've seen the SD in BestBuy all the time. I'm 90% sure they had the blu too, but not totally positive.

It's suppose to come out on Blu this month, or that is the last I saw on HD Digest and their release dates page.

I just checked the site, says it came out already.

Best Buy told me they had no plans to carry it on blu, not even on their web site. I ordered mine from wal-mart.com. You can you use a wal-mart gift card if you don't have a credit card.

BTW, it is an awesome movie, and it looks great in HD.

I know you wanted to find a B&M store that has it, but J&R has it right now for $15.99. Here's the link:

BTW, I saw the movie and I couldn't make heads nor tails out of it. Like a really bad acid trip that went wrong.
