Default Question about recievers

Right now I'm running a Sony STRK607P, which came with a home theater in a box. It was a hell of a deal when I purchased it and figured if I replaced it, I could put it in my bedroom. Now my question, I was never really huge into Home Thearter equipment, what is this reciever capable of doing? I know it's not much because of no HDMI input/output. Can anyone give me a little knowledge on it? Maybe a little advice for upgrading without spending a million bucks! haha

I googled "Sony STRK607P" but comes up nothing. Sony does not make the best speakers or recievers.

what is your budget for the new reciever?

Look at denon & yamaha

I recommend the Sony STR-DG910. I bought mine for $330 from JR. It has 3 HDMI inputs (vs 2 for the 605)

A better value in my opinion. Oh and it handles 7.1 PCM via HDMI, probably the #1 factor when selecting an HDMI receiver to use with Bluray.

I also have this receiver and got it from JR at that price, it's solid all the way around.
