Wow this is out in 3 days, and only 3 replies?
Anyway, got a question for Dirt 2 owners or anyone knowledgeable about Dirt 3. I'm interested in it and thinking about getting it but not sure if I'll enjoy it. Never played Dirt 2. I just want to know if it's similar (or you think it will be similar) to GT5's rally gameplay and difficulty. I sucked at it in GT5 so I don't know if I would enjoy Dirt 3. And is there any sort of "difficulty" setting or is it just a simple offline career? I do find the online aspects really intriguing though. Can't get off the fence on this decision... |

From Gamespot The Online Pass initiative spearheaded by Electronic Arts has gained a new follower. It was first reported by Eurogamer, and now Codemasters has confirmed for GameSpot that it will be including a onetime-use download code with new copies of its upcoming off-road rally racer Dirt 3 that activates the game's online modes. In addition to unlocking Dirt 3's multiplayer offerings, the code--known as a VIP Pass--delivers access to five bonus vehicles. These extra rides include the McRae M4, the Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500, and the Hummer H3. Dirt 3's online modes won't be part of the used-game purchase. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gamers who pick up a secondhand version of Dirt 3 can purchase a VIP Pass for 800 Microsoft points, or $10 in the US, £6.29 in the UK, and €7.99 in Europe. The pay wall is similar to that erected by a number of publishers beyond EA, including THQ and Sony. Ubisoft has expressed interest in the scheme. Got a great Review by the way. 9 out of 10 |

![]() ![]() This will probably get buried after tomorrow's E3 blowout, but hopefully someone sees it today. Because I came to post here how freaking awesome this game is. ![]() First off, the gameplay. It has some great rally locations, and while it isn't a complete sim game, you can adjust it so that it is pretty close. You can toy with the AI difficulty and your assists all you want. And online there is a special Hardcore category with forced interior view, no HUD and all assists off. True DiRT racers only right there. There's also a Trailblazer mode where you can use ridiculously overpowered cars (600+ BHP) with huge wings and no pacenotes and fly through rally stages. ![]() There are a couple circuit modes too, Rallycross and Landrush. The first is just a circuit with rally cars, the second is special circuits for trucks and buggies, which can be a blast (and can be a pain, but more on that down there). Then there is Head2Head. Offline this game mode is You versus an AI opponent, and at the end of the career there are three rounds, so you have to do it three times. Lastly, there's Gymkhana. The most controversial mode of this game, as it is the complete opposite of rally. You drift around and do donuts and spins. And you get "sick air" which is less than Mr. Petrov got back in Malaysia. Some people absolutely love it (and even bought the game for it) and some like myself despise it. Either way, it shouldn't diminish the other aspects of the game. However, since I was told to upload my clips to youtube, I finally uploaded a couple. Here's my slightly successful way of smashing blocks. So the graphics are really, really good for a multiplatform release. Anything outside of the track (especially people) are very average. But the track and weather conditions are superb, and the weather engine from F1 2010 is used and enhanced. (Graphics note - pics in this thread are not a true representation. See note at bottom) Here are some great shots showing the accumulation of snow onto the vehicle over a long rallycross event, in a spoiler since I don't want to resize them all. [Show spoiler] Now, online is done quite well too. You can buddy up with friends or hop in yourself and go into Pro Tour or Jam Session. What's unique about Pro Tour is you can choose what things you want to do - everything, just party modes, just gymkhana, just point-to-point rally/trailblazer, hardcore, or just circuit-based events. Rallying is quite cool, everyone runs it at the same time but is ghosted, so you don't worry about hitting them but it makes it feel a bit more competitive because you actually see the gap. A rally clip I made. The game told me to. ![]() With Jam Session, you can create your own game with your own rules. You can close off the lobby and just race privately with your friends or open it up. And if you want to join a jam session, you can hop in right away or look through a list of what all is available and what modes they are playing. Very helpful. The reason earlier I said that circuit modes can be a pain online is because naturally, there are those idiots out there that treat it as a destruction derby. And they completely suck at racing. It ruins the fun to me. In addition to this, each player has a rating: White: Cautious +20% fan bonus Green: Normal +10% fan bonus Yellow: Uncautious No change Red: Reckless -20% fan bonus Not only do you not want a poor rating, but you don't want to lose fans either. Most of these people race in circuit based modes, since that's where damage is on and affects your rating. Damage is on in party modes and point-to-point, but I don't believe either affects your rating. There are genuine racers, but from my experience, there's at least one in every lobby that's there to ruin things. You have to get past them immediately and hope to make it past the inevitable first turn pileup. I'm not a fan of those game modes anyway though, so I usually stick to party modes and point-to-point. So the online has the new addition of Party Modes - four unique games that add a fun twist to everything. Invasion has cardboard aliens and city towers dropped around the map for you to smash the aliens and avoid the buildings. Highest score wins. Outbreak has one car poisoned and the other cars have to avoid him, but if they are infected, they must then try and spread the disease. Transporter is a capture-the-flag game mode; your team aims to return the flag to a random location. Smashing into the flag carrier moves the flag to yourself (This might be my favorite party mode, some hilarious flag-bashing sometimes). The last is Cat-&-Mouse, where there are two mice in Mini Coopers that start ahead and the rest of the cars (cats) are back and must chase down the mice. The goal here is to "wreck" and beat down the opposing team's mouse AND defend your own mouse from attacking cats so that your own mouse crosses the finish line first. Unfortunately, not many play this game mode, as they either don't understand it and just race to the finish, completely suck at it, or sometimes get placed in an overwhelming situation that they leave (last night somehow we ended up being on the losing side of a 2v4 situation. It sucked). But with Jam Session, you can invite friends over (minimum 4 for cat and mouse) and do it your own way. So I hope I can persuade some to give this game a chance. It's great fun and I love playing it every night. If you're going for the Platinum trophy though, prepare for frustration, as the DC challenges offline are a genuine PITA as they have to be done perfectly. To be completely fair, my biggest complaint with the game is the dialogue. At the end of every offline race you'll hear "Wow, sick race there bro, you should upload that clip to youtube" or some variation of that. "Great job amigo, show the world and upload that clip to youtube." What made this more frustrating was before PSN store was working, it was literally impossible to upload the clip to youtube. And the bro wouldn't shut up. I also wish the Gymkhana events weren't in the DiRT Tour mode either, as there are many who don't want to do them. I read on the codemasters forum an instance where someone was excellent at rally stages, had the AI on the hardest difficulty etc, but it took him hours to get past the Gymkhana tutorial to move on with the game's offline career. I think this is a exaggerated scenario for most, as I thought I sucked at it but just passing the Gymkahana events is easy enough. But anyway, if you're a fan of racing games or rally games, give this game a chance. It's not Richard Burns Rally and a complete simulation game, but it's freaking fun. ![]() Note: Pictures are PS3 screenshots taken through XMB, transferred to computer, uploaded, and in some cases edited for size. So please don't take them as a graphical representation of the game. The game looks fantastic in motion when you're playing. |

Bring this thread back from the dead to say that the Asia Track Pack came out today, which should be $4.99, but shows up in the store for $0.99. Definitely worth a buck. Rest of the DLC is really awesome but overpriced. But I still love taking the Lancia Stratos and slinging it around Monte Carlo

Has anyone bought the DLC packs for this game? Also how is the online racing part for this game?
I rented this game from red box for 2 days about 3 months ago when the game first game out and really liked it but just didn't feel the game was worth $59.99. Now the game is at the $34.96 to $39.99 price range and I'm considering buying it sometime down the road. ![]() http://www.frys.com/ads/page8 Amazon $39.99: http://www.amazon.com/Dirt-3-Playsta...7094634&sr=8-1 Last edited by KB24SD; 09-27-2011 at 07:45 PM. |

Online racing is fine, but there's not many on. I haven't played myself for a month, and the last time I was on (late August) there was probably one lobby in each mode, maybe 2 or 3 lobbies on Fri/Sat nights. And it was the same people playing every night too. There was one weekend in July they ran Double XP and the numbers went up a lot, but not much since. The online is fun, just not a lot of people there. I definitely recommend the game, no doubt, but in its current online state, you may even want to wait for another price drop near the holidays. Up to you though, I really, really enjoyed it when I played it daily in the summer. Anything else as far as the game should be covered in my posts above, any other questions let me know (except wheel support, I play with my DS3). And I still have my copy if you need help with trophies and there's nobody on or something. But I know you should be good enough to get most, assuming there's people to play with online. |
