it's a classic movie, I personally don't care it's on mono, it's the content and I can't wait to see it in restored HD

It was originally done mono. One of the drawbacks to older movies.

I'll be getting it regardless

It was originally Mono sound, so that shouldn't really bother anyone. But I can't believe it is PG-13. When this came out it was originally PG, what happened to add the 13? Could it be the brief nudity back then was more acceptable?

When older movies get re-rated for release again they often get new ratings. Like the Original "Shaft". When it originally came out it was R, but when they had it re-rated it was a NC17 i believe. Its all about the people rating in now verses then.

Also I still can't wait for the movie.

Doesn't bother me one bit. Some of those old titles that get new 5.1 mixes sound awkward anyway.

Question

If Gone With The Wind can get a 5.1 soundtrack, they should be able to do the same for this one. It would be great, with all of Chuck's shootout action. I'm surprised that this one hasn't been redone.

Uncompressed 1.0. Rrrrrrrrrriiiight. I dont know, there have been a few very effective 5.1 re-mixes lately of mono track films. Yes, it will still be a great one to see again. Especially on BD. Just a bit surprised there was no sound engineering treatment for this release.

Default Omega Man - World Record?

When Omega Man is released on BluRay in stunning Mono 1.0 audio...will that be the FIRST EVER BluRay to have only Mono 1.0 sound?

Perhaps this is a World Record First?

Personally, being a HUGE OM fan...I am apalled at such a lackluster release. It is obvious that the movie company is ONLY interested in captializing on the I AM LEGEND movie coming out in December. The Blu Ray is a mirror of the DVD release in content both movie and extras wise.

This movie is in much need of a redo in terms of remixing in 5.1 and BOOSTING up of the sound effects ala Sergio Leone's Spaghetti westerns...The Good, Bad and Ugly, For A Few Dollars More and Fistful Of Dollars.

Bi-lal kaifa.

Although I do agree Warner are doing this purely as a cash-in. The sound is not only mono, but a lossy mono to boot, and there are zero extras. Quite unfortunate, honestly.

48000 * 16 = 768,000 bps per channel

So, 640Kbps should be pretty close to lossless, if the encoder is set right.

You can achieve 2:1 lossless compression, so yes it should be able to in theory. The problem is that lossless codecs usually do some filtering prior to encoding to reduce the data complexity - at that point the results from the prefiltering could probably be encoded at an even lower bitrate and all 640kbps would do is bitstuffing. I'm not even sure it's possible to turn off all the perceptual filtering for DD. Blu-ray has the bandwidth and space so I don't see why including it as PCM would be a problem.
