Default Do you buy movies or tv shows with no special features?

Just wanted to know if people buy movie or tv shows with no special features included? I always try to get movies with special features even if it just an audio commentary included. There are some exceptions, for instance someday I want to buy "The Birdcage" and no special features come with that movie. When it comes to buying box sets of tv shows I don't watch the special features as much as I do movies. Exception is "The Twilight Zone " complète séries in blu ray. I am trying to get thru the special features. I have many DVD tv shows that I have not watched the special features on yet. For some reason I am not bothered as much if tv show box sets don't come with tons of special features since I am getting all the uncut episodes. With a movie I really prefer it comes with special features. I have watched more special features with m blu ray movies than my DVD's.

Thanks for your answer. So PQ and AQ are more important to you that must make it easy for you to just buy movies and tv shows and not be bothered if they don't have special features.

I used to watch all the extras all the time back in my student days but now I just don't have the time.

Thanks for your response. I can understand you not having the time to watch special features, so that must mean you will buy movies and tv shows that don't have them.

It depends on the film. Generally speaking I prefer to have features, especially for old films, but there is a limit. I don't like discs that are stacked with features for the sake of it. I appreciate quality features, not supplemental material that's there to add bulk for fanboys.

In the DVD era I often refused to buy discs of films I loved if they had no features, that's why I waited for companies (especially Warner) to re-release their films as special editions. e.g Bladerunner, Amadeus, Batman (1989), Batman Returns etc. But now I don't care as much because there are more time constraints. I just don't have time to watch features all the time, but a good quality commentary track or documentary/featurette can definitely increase my appreciation and enjoyment of a particular film.

In short, if I like the film enough I will buy it regardless, provided that the transfer is good and the price is right, but I prefer features to be included.

Thanks for responding. I am in agreement with you regarding special features. The only difference is I still have a hard time being a blu ray movie that has no special features. It would have to be a pretty special film for that to happen. Since I have only been buying blu rays since 2014 I missed out on many Disney movies that were in the vault. Found the signature Disney releases were missing many of the Platinum edition bonus features so ended up buying used copies of Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty to have all the bonus features. I love Disney movies. Though I did buy the Pinochio signature edition since most of the special features were kept from the previous edition.

I buy bare bones blu-rays because, I don't watch the special features anyway. I don't care about seeing the cast & crew interviews, the making of the movie, commentaries, the bloopers, etc. The time that you spend watching all of that crap, you could be watching another movie. All I want is the movie!

Yes I do. Special features don't make or break a release in my opinion. I would say I've only watched 10% of the special features on the blurays I own. Most of the time I find them pretty boring.

Thanks. Guess I am finding that people like yourself care more about the movies than if a blu has special features.

Yes. If it's a movie I was a little warm on, good special features would be needed for me to buy it.

I really don't watch special features in the first place. I'll thumb through them and maybe watch once but that's it. I buy for the movie or show.

Absolutely, these days extras don't bother me either way. I'll buy something without extras for sure.

I watch some extra features if it's a movie that I absolutely love but for the most part, I'm just buying for the movie.

I buy some new movies on BD, but mainly catalog titles. Catalog titles that didn't get any special features during the DVD days, probably won't get anything new if they are released in (U)HD by the studio. I enjoy thoughtful and informative special features, which had their heyday 15-20 years ago when DVD was new. You can still get them from Criterion and Shout among others, but I'm not sure if the studios are even doing new special features anymore. If they are, it is greatly reduced from the DVD days. Some new movies only get EPK fluff. Some newer studio releases of catalog titles have even done away with menus(!).

I could NOT care less about special features, never watch them except for an occasional trailer. Video/Audio quality is my primary concern. Only thing I care less about other than special features is packaging (steelbooks, slips, etc).
