They're the polar opposite of the Oscars, which are a complete circle jerk as the big wigs of Hollywood give each other high gives and pats on the posterior. These are just an excuse for Hollywood to hate on unpopular movies and try to look cool doing it.

At least the Oscars shine a light on films and spread them to a wider audience, especially smaller films like Beasts of the Southern Wild.

The Razzies just focus on the negative, which we don't really need any more of, the world is cynical enough as it is.

MrBlonde, I know what you mean about them just focusing on the negatives but the Oscars don't really shine on the positive. The Oscars are Hollywood promoting themselves. If this was any other situation, we would be laughing at them - "Iphone - Phone of the Year Awards - Presented by Apple". They are not looking at the industry as a whole and saying "this was the best film made in the past year", they are looking at the ones that people submit and god only knows what goes on behind the scenes. How many times have you watched it and someone won an award that left you scratching your head, or someone isn't even nominated? I'll give them credit, they do get some attention over to films that wouldn't normally get it but in the end they are the industry promoting themselves and far from unbiased. At least with the Razzies, you know what to expect.

I don't find focusing on bad movies as a negative thing. Cultural awareness towards crap is never a bad thing

The Razzies are more about the perceived bad performances than the actual performances themselves.
