I'll be surprised if these aren't inferior technically to the Fox discs. But I'm also morbidly curious about what a Poltergeist III CE might entail.

I'm stoked for these releases. Poltergeist is one of my favorite movies. And the sequels aren't that bad.

I don't think I like these movies enough to pay for CEs. Maybe if they do a new scan, but even then... eh. I'm pretty much in the camp of Poltergeist being a one movie franchise, though that tequila slug was pretty badass.

SF be churning out lots of 2K IP scans so don't be so sure about that.

Um......my only question is WHY? They are already available on blu ray and unless it's a restoration...it's pointless.

I might have to get II because I haven't gotten it yet on blu. Also Giger's work on this is fantastic!

Because the'll probably have new restorations and loads of extra features?

Shame that these two get SEs before the original, but I don't think we'll ever get a true account of the making of that film.

Would love some great extras for Part III it is a guilty childhood pleasure of mine. Used to rent it all the time on VHS used to love that MGM UA opening logo. I think it was changed for DVD and BLU releases to the updated MGM
Logo sadly.

MGM's current Blu-Ray of II has a great transfer. I would be shocked if Shout's encoding is up to par, but it would be nice to see some extra features.

Both II and III also had lots of scenes deleted. I don't know if Shout can get into the vaults, but there was lots of excised footage there between those two movies. Given Shout's history, though, my guess is we won't be seeing any of them.

This isn't nearly as exciting as Slumber Party Massacre II/III, but depending on what kind of special features they can dig up I might go for these. I haven't upgraded them from DVD yet. Haven't upgraded Poltergeist 1, either, but I guess we may never get a version of that with any good special features until either Hooper or Spielberg (or both!) suddenly stop caring.

A lot of complaints that II and III don't deserve their own releases. I think both titles deserve their own separate releases, and slip covers and hopefully reversible original poster art for II and III please.

I would guess they could get new interviews for the releases. Deleted scenes would be nice but not holding my breath but then again who knows they could surprise us with great bonus features. I agree the current BLU transfers are good I actually only own III and it was an import BLU.

It would be cool to get the original opening logos for both films intact.

Looking forward to these 2 titles... And I'm excited for other releases but these films were my childhood although the original is the greatest ever.

I don't get the complaints. Just don't buy them and let the fans have their CE's.
There's a cheap barebones double feature from MGM for those who don't care enough.

Very excited for PII!

I was disappointed there were no extras on the previous barebones release and have always been intrigued by the making of. The previous release boosted ok picture and audio quality but I imagine there's still room for improvement.

I hope they will include following extras:

-deleted scenes / incomplete effects scenes
-A new making of with cast & crew
-Stock making of featurettes released to promote the movie or behind the scenes footage:

-More insight on the amazing performances by Julian Beck and Will Sampson
-The special effects process and interview with supervisor Richard Edlund
-Segment on H.R. Giger's involvement
-Segment on Jerry Goldsmith's amazing score or possible surviving interviews.
-Isolated score track
-Segment on the "poltergeist curse" that surrounded the movie (franchise)

Get to it

Yeah I highly doubt they would do that. Murder and Cancer isn't exactly something their fellow cast members would want to delve into.

As I said in the Scream thread, getting cast interviews for Part 2 will be hard considering the fact they don't talk about the film.

Too soon?

P.S. I don't want this to devolve into a PC discussion, honestly I could care less if they brought up the poltergeist curse or not which is why I put it last on the list. It just seems to me that if you were to do an honest retrospective on the movie, you'd at least bring up the media attention and deliberate marketing surrounding the movie.

I'd totally agree.
I tried rewatching 2 a while ago and it's pretty awful in comparison to the original.
I saw 3 on its original release and sort of enjoyed it, the mirror effects were quirky. But overall there really is only one Poltergeist film.

part 3 actually has some very cool cinematography tricks and cool framing with those mirrors. its not a great film but that stuff really works.
