They hinted at a 30th anniversary edition a few months back. Will be nice to see this on blu soon.

Univeral is gonna release that in September!

Whoa! Now I can at least netflix em and watch them all, never saw II III or IV cuz II never was released in the states, and I WILL NOT WATCH VHS!!! Plus its soooooo hard to find on VHS anyway. Thanks for the info

I own Phantasm 1-4 all on vhs in their original cases!! I will sell them to, if anyone is a collector or just wants them. Let me know!! This is great news as i just made a thread about this like a week ago or so!! Got Em!!

As for 1, 3 & 4, they've already appeared in hi-def download on PSStore, so it's likely Anchor Bay may be planning something--
Just too bad Universal still owns #2.

This movie scared the crap out of me as a teen when I saw this in the theater. The Tall Man, the ball and those jawa's

gave me nightmares for a week. Fun movie though!

Anyway, this is the deal:

ANCHOR BAY owns the rights to release P2 only for Europe. So the company digitalized P1, P2, P3 and P4 long time ago on Region 2 format (terrific PQ), and also released the SPHERE shaped box set.

It looks like Universal is gonna use a great transfer from a Japanese box set for this upcoming P2 release.

I'm in for all but Hellraiser II (and that's just because I haven't gotten into the HR series).

I'm hoping for the complete collection as well.

I'm one of the few but I loved Phantasm 4, It's actually my favorite of the sequels, But I still like 2 and 3 (not so much 3 though).
It really is a damn shame the films were never finished.

Haven't watched it, or have watched but haven't gotten into it?
H1 should be already on Blu, and H2:Hb was the only other one with a touch of genuine Barker-input "class".

After New World Pictures went under before #3, though...oh, lordy. -_-

Cosciarelli's "Ooo, Ambiguity is scary!

" is rather frustrating for II & III--

And while we're no closer to making coherent head or tail of IV, it at least seems to be the closest to an actual Finale of the series, by tying things back full-circle to the first movie, and going the usual "Backstory origin" tieup route for the TM.

(Horror series usually like to wrap their franchises up with more detailed Secret Origins, as also demonstrated by Psycho, Elm Street and Dimension's Halloween:In Name Only.)

Phantasm is outstanding. As a kid I liked the second one as well, but now when I watch it, it feels like somewhat lazy b-grade horror. The 3rd film is 3rd rate. The 4th, however, the one I hated upon my initial viewing is actually the best of the three sequels (IMHO). I love the way there is no plot - just simply the characters having nowhere else to run and looking for answers. And I love the way the story ties into the first film.

Either way, I will buy 1,2,4 on blu when they are all released. I will skip 3. I advise you to do the same, unless you can deal with the sci-fi original movie-esque score and camp-o-rama.
