Default Face/Off: How much better in Blu?

How much better is the PQ on the Blu version of "Face/Off"?

I agree. The transfer is great. I had the special edition dvd and upgraded to the Blu and have not regretted it.

I also bought it on sale from Best Buy but haven't watched it yet. It's gotten good reviews.

Speaking for the UK copy here but a massive improvement over the DVD!

Got this at wal-mart for $9.99 during boxing week, the picture and sound quality is awesome. A great action flick from the 90's to give your surround sound system a workout! Definite purchase!!

It would be great video-wise had they not DNR'd the hell out of the release!! There's no detail. Shame cause the color balance is excellent!!

The lack of a lossless option is a real blow, having said that, the DTS is pretty amazing on it's own!

from dvdcompare.com: UK is "cut by the BBFC - "To obtain this category cuts of 0m 7s were required" (John Travolta with the butterfly knife). now thats just annoying! as if the rest of the movie is about little furry creatures singing in the forest.

good news is, japan and australia are both UNCUT and have PCM 5.1 so I would personally go for them.

as for the OP question, look at this link, there a lot of movie quality comparisons, this one is hddvd vs dvd but it gives you a good answer.. enjoy!

I have the HD DVD version which is incredible so the blu should be just as good.

Well it depends on which version you get, I have both the Japanese and U.S. versions. The Japanese version has the better (non-DNR'd) transfer and lossless audio, the U.S. version has better special features (The Japanese version only has a trailer and an action montage) and the DTS audio track is excellent, but the transfer is a true case of DNR being used incorrectly. Everybody's face looks like plastic.

Get the Japanese version by Buena Vista - great picture with detail intact, lossless audio and its uncut (as opposed to the UK version which is cut).

Kage99.

I was very impressed with both the PQ and AQ improvements on this BD over the DVD. A great "popcorn" action flick.

Thanks!

I was definitely referring to the US release. Glad to know there's a non-DNR version out there. That should look and sound amazing!!
