Default Detention ( 7-31-12)

I just finished watching Detention...and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Like this site's review says, it's very much a "love it, or hate it" type of film. I can say I am firmly in the "love it" category.

I was sort of expecting a low rent slasher flick...instead I got a film that I really don't know how to classify. Was it a horror film? A comedy? Sci-fi? Satire? I suppose it was all of the above.

Any film that features a time travelling grizzly bear, a dance scene set to "Mmmbop", an homage to the Breakfast Club, a Bronson Pinchot reference, an on-going "who was cooler?": Roadhouse era Patrick Swayze vs. Hard to Kill era Steven Segal debate (FYI: Roadhouse, by a mile...IMHO), talk of flux capacitors, and ending credits set to a TV On The Radio track ("Wolf Like Me") is A-OK in my book!!

While watching it, initially, you feel like the editing is off...or maybe you're just missing something. There are a lot of things that just don't make sense...but, hang in there. It all comes together in the end.

A cult classic waiting to happen.

Excellent PQ and AQ.
