Science fiction and fantasy series of the 1990s are full of computer-generated special effects. And those effects were done after the original film masters were transferred to standard definition video. To release these series in HD, they would have to make another transfer from the film masters and redo every special effect from scratch.
So far, Star Trek: The Next Generation is the only one of these series that's getting this treatment. Is there any hope for other series like Babylon 5, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel or is the process of creating special effects so expensive that the Blu-ray sales will never cover the costs? |
