Overall I'm fairly disappointed by the nominations. It looked like they largely just went with the status quo and there weren't many surprising nods. I was happy that Silicon Valley got a Best Comedy nomination but I was hoping to see some acting nominations, particularly the work by the late Christopher Evan Welch as Peter Gregory. I also expected more nominations for Brooklyn Nine-Nine after winning Best Comedy and Best Actor at the Golden Globes, but the only nomination it received was for Emmy favorite Andre Braugher. It looks like category shopping worked out well for Orange is the New Black, as the show that is much more drama than comedy did very well in the comedy category.

Pretty much the usual suspects. Might be a big upset with Breaking Bad going out with a whimper but honestly, it just feels super unexciting this year. I think if True Detective went the mini-series route we would have had a really exciting race there.

I am really surprised they are completely ignoring Tatiana Maslany again this year. She just won the Critics Choice Awards like a couple of months ago... Deserved at least a nomination

I agree, Orphan Black is a great series, and she's phenomenal in it.

It may have gotten some technical or makeup nominations (I only looked at the acting and best show noms), but it has never been the type of show that gets critical acclaim. It's a show like NCIS in that it's extremely popular but ignored by the major shows at award time.

Edit: Just checked and The Walking Dead got nominations for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series and Outstanding Special and Visual Effects in a Supporting Role.

I see, thanks, yet reality shows which are all garbage, get their own categories.

Hannibal ignored again. Oh well. Having a third season is better than an award.

Happy for Lena Headey. Glad they nom'd her instead of Clarke. Last year's nom should have went to Michelle Fairley. Still bitter about it.

The Walking Dead has horrible writing and average acting. It doesn't Deserve anything besides technical nods.

OUTSTANDING COMEDY - This one is really tough. I watch all 5 of these shows...I love that Silicon Valley got a nomination, but I'm not sure if it is worthy, too new. Same with BBT, but just "average." Modern Family is over-rated to me..Veep is very solid and outstanding but I think it lacked a tiny bit this season. OITNB was solid, but I don't know if it will win. I really enjoyed Louie this year. It was different, fresh, unique, and it featured one of my favorite TV scenes of the year, so I'm picking that.

Louie

OUTSTANDING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY - God, I would LOVE for Amy to win...but Julia is outstanding and I always love the reliable Edie and so do the voters. I'm going out on a crazy limb here with Amy.

Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation

OUTSTANDING ACTOR IN A COMEDY - Love that Macy got nominated, he is absolutely sensational and had an incredible role this season. Totally deserves it, but I'm not totally sure it is a "Comedy" role lol (we all know the controversy about this show and others in the comedy/drama fields) But Louie is a really close close call.

Louis CK, Louie
William H Macy, Shameless

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY - Torn between these two..
Kate Mulgrew, Orange Is the New Black
Kate McKinnon, Saturday Night Live

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A COMEDY - Not sure about this one. Another really hard category. I watch all these shows...hmm...split between Ty, Fred and Tony.

Ty Burrell, Modern Family
Fred Armisen, Portlandia
Tony Hale, Veep

OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTRESS IN A COMEDY - Really split between these two...ughhh lol
Uzo Aduba, Orange Is the New Black
Joan Cusack, Shameless

OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY
Jimmy Fallon, Saturday Night Live

OUTSTANDING REALITY SHOW HOST - No Jeff Probst...ugh...
Jane Lynch, Hollywood Game Night

OUTSTANDING REALITY SHOW COMPETITION
The Voice

OUTSTANDING VARIETY, MUSIC, OR COMEDY SERIES

OUTSTANDING TV MOVIE

LEAD ACTOR IN A TV MINISERIES OR MOVIE - Damn. Billy Bob destroyed this role, but Martin Freeman was outstanding as well.

Martin Freeman, Fargo
Billy Bob Thornton, Fargo

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A TV MINISERIES OR MOVIE
Allison Tolman, Fargo

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A TV MINISERIES OR MOVIE
Colin Hanks, Fargo

Yeah but HBO cheekily put it as miniseries. The skeptic in me thinks the reason why is this: if they'd put True Detective as miniseries and Treme as regular series (a more accurate placing, IMO), only TD would win. This way round, TD may beat Breaking Bad and Treme might get miniseries, so they can potentially double the awards they get...

It wasn't HBO's choice to put Treme in the miniseries category. The final season was only 5 episodes, and Emmy rules state that to be eligible for the Best Drama category a show must have a minimum of 6 episodes, so the only option was to place it in the miniseries category.

+1 on Hannibal. Too graphic for Emmy voters maybe? Too much love for Downton Abbey.

In the comedy categories, I was hoping The Mindy Project would make the cut. Really enjoyed last season.

Family Guy or American Dad in the animated program would have been great but good to see Bob's Burgers nominated.

I wouldn't put too much bets on Breaking Bad. Just a feeling I've got, they had there big 'Woohoo, going out with a bang" last year, and I think with True Detective and Game of Thrones between then and this year, it'll not be the big splash maker.

Fargo will probably run away with the Miniseries side of thing though, nothing breaks out with that many nominations and walks away with nothing.

Nah, Breaking Bad has the "going out with a bang" this year. This is their final year, and everyone believes they have it locked. No chance for GOT at all. True Detective is the only small chance.

Ah I didn't know that! I take back my slandering of HBO!

I think Cranston may get Best Actor, but other Breaking Bad contenders will lose out. Aaron Paul deserves to win, but I can't see him beating Dinklage (although I'll happily be proved wrong). McConaughey might just beat Cranston - I don't think Harrelson will. Anna Gunn is the only one I'd put any money on winning (based on her contenders).

I think if Best Drama goes to True Detective, Best Actor would go to Cranston, and vice versa (i.e., if Best Drama goes to Breaking Bad, Best Actor goes to McConaughey).

I dunno, it was at the peak of it phenomena last year and I think now that the voters have had a year to reflect and kinda see the final episodes weren't their strongest material, and award shows like this are known for there short term memory. Add to that HBO's game plan with True Detective, and the fact that Game of Thrones is currently the most talked about series on TV, plus Fargo gave everyone there fix of pulp Crime Drama, I think Breaking Bad will slip through the cracks this year in favour for something relevant. But like I said, just a strong feeling I've got, I'm not as good at predicting Emmys like I am with Oscars.

Not the strongest material? I haven't heard anyone saying that. The episodes are some of the highest rated and coveted of the series by fans and critics. Plus AMC is putting the show back in everyone's mind with the re-run of the series and massive promotion sent out to voters. I don't think there is any chance of a Breaking Bad upset. I think either Cranston will win Best Actor or the show will win. One of those 2 will happy for sure.
