Default Anybody get Big Fish yet?

Did anybody get Big Fish yet...or are you all Bond-crazy?

I liked this one a lot, and I'm curious how it compares to the SD (which I found very soft)?

I picked it up last week. Got it early!!!

It looks brilliant. No Special Features though. Disappointing, considering the newly released SD version.

Sony did a very nice job with Big Fish. Though, I was also surprised they didn't include more extras than a commentary. The newest DVD wasn't a Special Edition though. It was the original DVD that only came with a small handful of extras, but repackaged with a collectible book.

So...the PQ rating would then be...?

Since the lack of extras - was this a BD 25 then? Also which codec was used?

I can't give you a rating on this movie, but I can give you the answer to your other questions.

This is a 25GB BD using MPEG-2 and uncompressed PCM.

The video is MPEG2 at roughly 25mbs I'd guess. The disc is a BD50 though, not a BD25, which is further indication that dual-layered discs will be the norm in the future, as I'm sure Sony could have put a lot more on this disc, which makes the absence of extras all the more perplexing.

Yes, that sounds strange indeed.
When you mention the lack of extras, I was pretty sure that suggested a BD25.

It must be an effect from all the champagne paidgeek and co-workers has been drinking, celebrating the success of Casino Royale!

From what I've seen, they haven't figured out how to tell the difference yet. Peter lists a number of BD50s as being BD25s.

Default Big Fish Blu

This is actually a spin-off of another thread about where the line is drawn between a great upconverted DVD and a poor rated video transfer Blu. Now without getting into lossless audio or the lack of special features on the blu... can anyone really talk about the differances they noticed in the PQ of Big fish blu vs. upconverted dvd. I have both and have never been struck impressed by the blu, any specific scenes that jump out?

42" 720p 09 TC-P42X1 Panny plasma,Ps3 (and a diff sony upconvert dvd with hdmi) 5-6 ft away, but also compared on my old 30" 1080i tube tv, and my friends 46" 1080p samsung lcd, and i mean i've watched dozens of the same dvds/blus on those 3 tvs, and was blown away by the blu most of the time. So there aren't really any variables at play here.. im just not seeing anything great in this exact title...

I've never been a fan of this release either, bought after review said it was fantastic. Found it to be anything but. Would love to see a better version.

My guess is that the format was new, people weren't sure where the ceiling was as far as PQ goes. If it were reviewed today it'd get a 3 for PQ at best.

Great movie, needs a remaster. There are quite a lot of titles that could benefit from a fitting remaster.
