Hey ... I just watched Run Silent Run Deep, while not a perfect film, I found myself strangely fascinated with this film. I don't really know why. The Black and White was fantastic, Lancaster's performance is superb and subdued. Gable was pretty good as well.
Anyway ... If I had to put this film in a list of titles I feel the same about it would sort of be as as follows ... 1. Psycho 2. Stalag 17 3. 12 Angry Men 4. From Here to Eternity 5. The Manchurian Candidate 6. On the Waterfront 7. Notorious 6. Lifeboat 7. The Mist (B&W Tranfer) All of these films are b&w script/performance driven films ... Can you guys offer suggestions along these line ... I probably have already seen them ... But if not I'll be psyched to give them a try. I left the film Noir a Classics off this list on purpose ... Kiss Me Deadly and the Killing for example , while fine films, have a different feel to them. I nearly did not include On The Waterfront for the same reasons ... But it's so damned good. :-) Looking forward to your suggestions! Last edited by mdonovan; 10-11-2014 at 07:16 PM. |

How was Fear and Desire? Just ordered the Hustler. Not a fan of Repulsion (slightly to Indy art housy for my taste) or Foreign Correspondent ( I normally love hitch) although I can appreciate them. 39 steps is awesome .. Just have not gotten around to purchasing it yet. |

Anything Hitchcock from The Lady Vanishes up is worth seeing, in my opinion.
Lots of black and white sci-fi is probably worth seeing, plus the early Universal monster movies from the 30's and 40's. I especially like Wolfman and Frankenstein movies. Not a movie but if you like sci-fi you should try some early Doctor Who, specifically the 2nd Doctor era. Serials like The Invasion, Tomb of the Cybermen and The War Games are sci-fi classics, and have a strong black and white aesthetic. |
