Default 'Hellraiser' Remake - Clive Barker to Write, Doug Bradley Returning as Pinhead

Quote:
Clive Barker to Write HELLRAISER Remake with Doug Bradley Returning as Pinhead

In my favorite horror-related news of the year, horror legend Clive Barker will write the script for a Hellraiser remake. Helping to make that news even greater is the additional info that Doug Bradley will return to reprise his role as Pinhead. (How cool is all of that?!) To put Hellraiser in a contemporary context, it’s kind of like a horror version of Fifty Shades of Grey (not really, but there’s lots of S&M in both). It was Barker’s directorial debut in 1987 and Barker himself pitched the idea for a remake to Bob Weinstein of Dimension Pictures. Hit the jump to see what Barker himself had to say about the meeting and the tone of the remake.

Here’s the news from Barker’s Facebook page (via Hero Complex):

Quote:
HOT FROM HELL! My friends,I have some news which may be of interest to you. A few weeks ago I had a very productive meeting with Bob Weinstein of Dimension Pictures,in the course of which I pitched a remake of the first HELLRAISER film. The idea of my coming back to the original film and telling the story with a fresh intensity-honoring the structure and the designs from the first incarnation but hopefully creating an even darker and richer film-was attractive to Dimension. Today I have officially been invited to write the script based upon that pitch. What can I tell you about it?Well, it will not be a film awash with CGI. I remain as passionate about the power of practical make-up effects as I was when I wrote and directed the first HELLRAISER. Of course the best make-up in the world loses force if not inhabited by a first-rate actor. I told the Dimension team that in my opinion there could never be a Pinhead without Doug Bradley, and much to my delight Bob Weinstein agreed. So once the papers are signed , I will open a Lemarchand Configuration, dip my quill in its contents and start writing . I promise that there will be nowhere on the Internet where the news of my progress will be more reliable than here ,because the only author of these reports will be Your Infernal Corespondent ,me. My very best wishes to you
all,my friends.

Clive.

So is it really a remake if its from the same guy and stars the same guy?

Seems more like a sequel than anything else.

Hopefully its just a redo of the first film with freshened up effects and a little more Cenobite backstory. The first original film is good, just a tad dated.

Maybe "Do Over" is more appropriate.

Fun news. Pinhead may have to shed a few pounds before filming. Off topic but the IDW hellraiser comic from barker is actually really cool. The girl from the first two movies takes the place of pinhead.

my initial thoughts are...

it will be 10 times more revolting (and the original was a pretty "hard" R) than the first one

and there will be CGI cartoon blood everywhere....

oh yeah, and Pinhead will now be an old fart

I think this will be more of a reboot than anything else. So not really a remake, but a reboot. Yes, they're two different things. even if it still has all the original pieces. So like i said it's a loose sequel.

The phrase "do over" has a slight negative connotation to it. It could imply #1 was a bad film that needs to be wiped from people's memories, which it certainly wasn't. The sequels on the other hand......

Well using CGI to make Doug Bradley look younger wouldn't be bad since Pinhead is anything but natural.

Why does Clive Barker want to rewrite the script for Hellraiser, when he already wrote it once before? I've never heard of a director remaking his own movie, and using the same actor for the leading role 26 years later. If that's the case, then why remake it.

"A remake," that's what they often say on interview.

Like 'The Thing', that was once said to be a remake, it wasn't. Whether anyone like the movie or not, that's a different story.

The new Chucky movie, 'Curse of Chucky', that was once said to be a remake as well, it isn't...Again, good or bad, that's another story. (Although it was written by the same man who did all the others,)

I feel this might be the same case in reference to the "remake".

That said, this is very good news for me, and probably many horror fans out there as well. If anything, just to erase the stench of the Hellraiser Netflix, aka Hellraiser: Revelations. That was so terrible... along with that Pinhead, who spoke poor attempt of dark poetry.

Doug Bradley is pretty old, and last time I saw him in Wrong Turn 5 he was pretty chubby, hopefully make-up will help him for Pinhead.

Looking forward with guarded hopes. I guess if it is something of a re-imagining, a somewhat elderly demonic dude can be creepy enough (it's not like he's an action-hero), thinking Angus Scrimm, though he ain't chubby. My wife seems to think I'm pretty creepy now, and I'm only 47.

Quotes that were made about Curse of Chucky being a remake, could have been rumors from the beginning. Personally, I've never anticipated The Curse of Chucky was going to be a remake. I always thought it would be another sequel.

Sounds good! Hopefully the film if it gets made will be as good as the first two films.

I don't care if it's a remake or reboot TBH.

It's Barker and Bradley teaming up again.

I can only imagine the possibilities now that this movie will be made 30 years later. I hope that it's not all CGI because I prefer the practical effects. I think Bradley's vision may be even better with modern effects + a little bit of CGI.

Technically it could be called another adaptation of Barker's novella but since the original version follows the book pretty closely apart, its hard to think what could be added apart from The Engineer. A reboot away from the increasingly dreadful sequels is a good idea but not sure about Doug Bradley returning.

Better that Doug Bradley return rather than we get another constipated Pinhead.

Why in God's name did they think that was a good pic to use on the home video cover. *Facepalms*
