Yeah... I would love to see a Blu-ray of the Opening Ceremonies in Beijing -- that would be an epic visual treat!

I would love to see the 2008 olympics as well, but i think he is referring to this winter olympics b/c that is a canadian edition and focused on canada. I think he was referring to US or other countries getting a edition as well.

I pre-ordered this last week. I believe if you do so, you get a free Olympic PhotoBook as well.

And judging by CTV's OTA HD broadcast, this will look awesome!

I highly doubt that will happen. CTV has exclusive rights to all footage from these Olympic games. Other countries would have to pay CTV for the rights to have access to said footage. Everything seen by the world about these Olympics is given to those networks by CTV feeds. There have even been explicit warnings on TV during commercial breaks that "all footage of the 2010 Olympic Games is property of blah-blah-blah. Any reproduction and/or unauthorized display of Olympic content is strictly forbidden." Well... I had to paraphrase that, but you get the jist of it.

I know that I'll be ordering it! And, for those considering it as well, take note. It will be focused mainly on the Canadian successes and performances of these games and not the performances of other countries.

NBC/Universal (who is showing the Olympics in the U.S.) is releasing a DVD, but looks like no BD.

Interesting... it doesn't even look like they have any more than a single disc for their release. I wonder if it's because of the contract that CTV has? The CTV edition is multiple discs and seems to be in a better position to make use of the Blu-ray spec. With the limited footage that NBC has access to, I would imagine that it was deemed "not worthy" to put it on BD.

I doubt NBC has "limited footage". They have had three channels of events on during prime time for the last two weeks, all in hi-def.

All Olympic games have common video feeds, with different countries using their own announcers. All of this is licensed well before the games start.

I suspect the real reason NBC is just releasing a single-disc DVD is because they don't think an Olympics disc will sell well in the US. Other than player's families, I doubt there is much of a market for many hours of Olympics footage, especially since everyone will already know hos the events end up.

If someone wants to get one from outside Canada, I can help with that at cost.

In order to comply with NBC time delayed broadcasting of the Olympics, this set will ship in 2013.
