I have always loved this little film and think it truly captures a spirit of period filmmaking that emphasizes character over unrealistic rapid fire wit, winking irony and self conscious rejection of humanity. In their place are simple little stories with humor and charm and microcosmic insight that reassure us being alive isn't so bad after all.
One slight correction to your excellent review, Pro-B: The Michael Constantine character is not married to the Pamela Britton character, they meet on the tour. He seems hoping to rekindle his wartime romance with an Italian beauty, but there is a growing friendship between he and Britton that suggests they are each lonely single travelers destined to be together. The movie hints at it, but unlike comedy love stories made today, never sledge hammers the outcome, it's just one small sweet piece of the pie. |

I love this movie. When I was a child I saw it first-run in the theatres and watched it on television on occasion. When it was announced for Blu-ray I made sure to pre-order it. I recommend it highly. Get it now while the price is low on Amazon and the Deep Discount BOGO sale going on. It is the perfect film for Summer viewing.

Got this on street date. Loved this film ever since catching it on TV shortly before going on a two-week European tour in 1985 at the age of 16. Taped it off AMC when I finally got the chance, then jumped on the DVD when it was released. Not only does the Blu look great, but it also surprisingly (for Olive) includes the trailer (unmentioned on the cover), which was missing from the DVD. A wonderful film.

Hello Brad,
I saw you mentioned the sale. If you do not have Jinxed!, consider picking up a copy. It is a really, really good Don Siegel film (ignore old reviews). The transfer is also lovely ![]() I actually think it might fit the "good for summer viewing" bill as well ![]() ![]() They also have The Boost on sale. Another very good film. It is so strange that people are not talking about this film/release. ![]() ![]() And this film is a must-own for Tina Louise fans ![]() A lot of excellent titles in this sale. Pro-B |

![]() Yes, French Postcards is another very good film -- and unlike the DVD release, the Blu-ray release has the original music. I am sure you will like it a lot. |

I actually saw French Postcards when it came out in 1979 in Cinemas, and then on a cable channel in L.A. called the Z Channel. It has been ages since I have seen it, so I am looking forward to it. That year another charming film set in France, A Little Romance was released, which I loved. I'm dying to have that film on Blu ray.

I stumbled across this on Amazon. It's included with Prime at the moment for anyone that just wants to check it out. I thought it looked great in HD for what it was. Doesn't appear to be available to purchase digitally anywhere at the moment and the Olive Blu isn't cheap.

This film really should be more highly regarded — I’d go so far as to say it’s one of the best comedies of the ‘60s. I’m so glad I own the Blu. Now I need my other fave ‘60s romantic comedy on Blu, FITZWILLY (1967).

Bumping this.
I was following links from Music Man on wikipedia, one thing led to another and then this movie was mentioned. I'd totally forgotten it, but had seen it on cable as a kid. It's Olive, so out of print, and Amazon has 8 left at $20. FYI. (Was 9, but I snagged one. ![]() |
