Default How about HDMI to HDMI and analog audio cable for the PS3

Since mostly every on the PS3 has the issue with audio on the PS3, why can't a cable like that be made, on side HDMI(PS3) and the other end would split up one still HDMI to the TV or projector, and the other 5 analog for audio for the receiver? Possible.

While the output cable you suggested is not possible due to the HDCP(copy protection) in HDMI cables, an analog version with the component video and analog 5.1 channel audio should be possible.

One of the great things about HDMI is that one cable handles both video and audio. Cuts down on the clutter.

Default HDMI to DVI

Own a PS3 and use HDMI for my LCD. I also have an older DLP in the living room that has only DVI - I don't want to use the analogue componet video. The PS3 outputs EATHER compnent or HDMI but not both at the same time. DVI is video only. Can a PS3 be hooked up via DVI and 2 channel audio to the TV only. Wan't to know before buying an HDMI to DVI cable. Thanks.

I don't understand the topic. What's the issue with PS3 audio through HDMI?

You can seperate the audio stream delivery method from the video stream delivery. Although you wouldn't utilize the yellow plug on the AV MULTI, and would just have 2 channel audio, you can do it.

Same here... I don't get what the OP was trying to get at. I also had trouble reading it (no offense).

Do you mean you want like an HDMI splitter type of deal that splits the video and audio and sends the audio via 5.1 analog out to the reciever and the video to the TV?

I'm sure that's what the OP was requesting. I myself have been wondering why no company has released an HDMI D/A converter specifically for this purpose. There are A LOT of people out there with PS3's and receivers that don't support audio over HDMI. A simple device that connected to the PS3 via HDMI, had the necessary D/A converters and 5.1 or 7.1 analog outputs, and then an HDMI video output would not be all that difficult to create. It wouldn't necessarily be cheap (depending on the quality of the D/A converters used), but I think there would be a pretty good sized market for it.

Would it be at all possible to build a USB attachment that DOES have that many DACs, out of curiosity?

I'd still send my video HDMI but my non-HDMI receiver would like to have analog 6.1 signals coming in

Highly unlikely. It's completely out of the protected datapath as required by the BD spec

Not via USB due to protection issues, but my HDMI DAC idea is perfectly achievable. The problem is the main companies that could/would make one also all make receivers... and they'd much rather you bought a new $600+ receiver than a $100 DAC and continue to use your old receiver. At least that's the response a got from some insider's when I questioned why no one seemed to be pursuing such a device.

Not sure if this answers your Q but yeah, you can run video via an hdmi to dvi and then in the audio settings, you can run audio via optical, or the red, white via the AV multi, thats how I have one of my TVs hooked up

Because everyone who would make it is much more interested in selling you a new reciever

Like is been explain yes you can do it that way, use the HDMI to DVI(That's how i have mine hook up) and the audio either the regular ps3 conector, or optical. On the systems settings under audio you can pick where you want the audio to come out of.

Yes that's what i meant to say, pretty much and HDMI cable that half way would split, one end keeps on going HDMI that would go to your TV or projector, and the other end turns into 5.1 or 7.1 males for analog.

Yes, I have the same thing. Older DLP TV with DVI so I go out with an HDMI/DVI cable to the TV and optical out for the audio to my receiver.
