What do you guys think life will be like after the war?
I'm speaking out to everyone, HD-DVD and Blu-ray fans-alike. We don't know exactly when this war will truly end, nor "if" there would be a winner at all. However, what we do know is that we (as in all of us) took part in this, one way or another. I have here three (obvious) scenario. 1. Blu-ray wins. 2. HD-DVD wins. 3. Stalemate. If any of the three scenario above should come to pass. How would life be like, for all party, in all scenario. Last edited by Blu-Generation; 11-30-2007 at 09:50 PM. |

I'd be forced to wait a few years before adopting HD-DVD until HD-DVD can provide lossless audio as a rule and not the exception to the rule.

If HD DVD won and they left the specs the way they are now and continued to make the combo discs, no not a chance I would buy into it. If they came out with a player with advanced bandwidth (made by someone else than Toshiba) I would look into it as a posibility.

1) Blu-ray wins. I'd feel comfortable buying movies again in the Blu-ray format (currently, I don't buy DVD's and only buy Blu-ray movies if I can get them for under $15 a pop).
2) HD-DVD wins. I sell my Blu-ray movies on E-bay (having never paid more than $15 a pop, I'd get most of my money back, I figure). Then I'd go and buy an HD-DVD player and start buying HD-DVD's in confidence. 3) Stalemate. I stop buying movies and just rent everything until I guess we go with the heavy DRM enabled, pay-as-you-go download/streaming stuff the studios are getting all worked up over. DiVX on a computer hard drive is what it sounds like to me. |

Something I've been wondering for a while, if HD-DVD won in North America, what would happen with the rest of the world which is already like 70%+ favoring blu. Would everyone there be forced to switch. Would Europeans and the Japanese still be getting Blus. Could I just import theres?
Becuase if HD-DVD won, that's the way I'd go until triple layered discs are working properly and the standard. |

I'd like to be able to look back and say: Thank heaven this amazing format, the best in over 25 years of optical disc, prospered so that for the first time feature film can be delivered into anyone's home so clearly, beautifully and inexpensively.
I imagine life after the format war as ceaseless delight with an ample supply of gorgeous high-def content, coupled with fond reminiscence of our small early-adopter role in the conflict which nearly scuppered HDM for everyone. |

You have a better chance of getting hit by lighting on the way to cash your winning lotto ticket than an HD DVD victory!!!

I think when this war is over we're going to find that all of this zealotry that most people display will disappear because there will be only one choice for HD movies. At the end of the day, watching movies in HD is the point of all this.
With that said, HD-DVD cannot win outright because of the PS3 and the fact that the rest of the world has pretty much adopted Blu-Ray. HD-DVD followers act as if there is a point spread or something. "Since we're getting 21 points, the fact that we lost by 20 means nothing since we beat the spread." If Blu ray somehow did lose, the entry cost to HD-DVD is what, $150? A dual formal player is also an option also. In the end, I'd buy HD-DVD if Blu lost. |
