Sony Pictures Ghostbusters 3D Blu-ray (2016) [Region Free]

Ghostbusters 4K + 3D Blu-ray

So glad this film has been confirmed for a 3D release. Ghostbusters will suit the format extremely well; a 3D must-see.

I want to see all kinds of ghosts floating and sliming their way out of the screen. I want to see particle beams fired out into the audience. Maybe even a ticker-tape parade at the end. There should be many opportunities for 3-D to enhance the entertainment value.

I'm expecting the usual disappointment of modern converted 3d, but the potential is definitely there!

I think even if it is converted, it'll work well with Ghostbusters. It's naturally suited to the 3D format.

Looking forward to this and I hope Slimer returns and flies right into the camera a few times.

Let's start predictions for when it'll release in UK. My guess is 22nd July.

Hopefully soon so fans get to see it around the same time.

-------
I'm guessing Bill Murray makes a guest appearance, and Weaver also.
Rick Moranis has retired from acting, so it's doubtful he'll show up.
Harold Ramis, Egon, passed away in real life recently.
Dan Akroyd, Ernie Hudson will hopefully appear briefly also.

I wonder what team is converting this to 3D for the live action footage. The CGI can be rendered in 3D, then composited/blended with the live action 3D.

I don't really think you can tell if a film is suited to 3d or not by its genre (i'm really tired of 3d being said to really only be beneficial for action by many) and everything about this films production seems to be a rather cynical cash grab from what I have seen. I hope i'm wrong but I have very low expectations for both the film and 3d present.

I have a buddy who worked at the 3D EFFECTS house that did the intial conversion test for Ghostbusters about 3 years ago. They did the first reel, and he said it was FANTASTIC!
The plug was pulled after that test- but I am glad to hear it is back on!

90% are conversions and you probably don't even realize it. Conversion (done well) is just as good (and in many ways preferable) these days. When you shoot native 3D, you are "locked" into your shots for all time (with no leeway in post production). Most well done conversions take time (AT LEAST 12 months), and when done well are just fine. The biggest 3D movies have been conversions.
Although Avatar was largely native, it also contained conversion material.
But all of Gravity, Mad Max, jurassic World, furious 7, Everest, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, Guardians of The Galaxy, etc. are all conversions.
Conversions get a bad rap from the bad ones. The good ones are just fine.
And there have been plenty of crappy native 3D films too.

Jurassic World sure was a conversion and it showed with warping/halos everywhere, gravity was nearly enitrely cgi and that was all native, passing it off as simply a conversion is very dishonest, and Furious 7 was a cheap chinese conversion.

Conversions aren't inherently bad, the main problem is that it makes it very easy for the film makers to simply make a 2d film with 3d slapped on in post by other people. Conversions still aren't close to matching native at its best.

Really hope that's true. About time films came out the same time in both UK and US.

(Plus it's more convenient for me if it comes out then anyway but that's not really a proper case for it coming out on 15th July in UK too.).

I never realised Jurassic World was a conversion. I thought the 3D was brilliant. The worst 3D film I have ever seen is Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs; it was pretty much non-existent.

I don't want top ruin it for you, but there where conversion errors everywhere, if you didn't notice them don't look. As if you do you will go straight back to 2d.

Was this a previous version of the current film, or were they converting the original Ghostbusters?

I don't mind subtle conversion errors but I can understand why it would take some 3D fans out of enjoying the experience in 3D, if they're looking for total realism for 3D.

I would agree, but I wouldn't say JW has subtle conversion errors. They where quite noticeable and frequent especially in jungle scenes. But back to Ghostbusters, we should discuss this in the Jurassic World thread.

Thanks Suntory. I did notice some warping. Hopefully Ghostbusters will be closer to Titanic's 3D, though I wonder if the conversion team will be given the time and budget needed for strong 3D.

This opens Monday 11th in UK & Ireland. Which is a bit unorthodox, but suits me fine, don't usually have any prior engagements on a Monday evening.
