I'm guessing Bill Murray makes a guest appearance, and Weaver also.
Rick Moranis has retired from acting, so it's doubtful he'll show up.
Harold Ramis, Egon, passed away in real life recently.
Dan Akroyd, Ernie Hudson will hopefully appear briefly also.

I wonder what team is converting this to 3D for the live action footage. The CGI can be rendered in 3D, then composited/blended with the live action 3D.

I don't really think you can tell if a film is suited to 3d or not by its genre (i'm really tired of 3d being said to really only be beneficial for action by many) and everything about this films production seems to be a rather cynical cash grab from what I have seen. I hope i'm wrong but I have very low expectations for both the film and 3d present.

I have a buddy who worked at the 3D EFFECTS house that did the intial conversion test for Ghostbusters about 3 years ago. They did the first reel, and he said it was FANTASTIC!
The plug was pulled after that test- but I am glad to hear it is back on!

Was this a previous version of the current film, or were they converting the original Ghostbusters?

I don't mind subtle conversion errors but I can understand why it would take some 3D fans out of enjoying the experience in 3D, if they're looking for total realism for 3D.

Really hope that's true. About time films came out the same time in both UK and US.

(Plus it's more convenient for me if it comes out then anyway but that's not really a proper case for it coming out on 15th July in UK too.).
