Default When will Toshiba finally admit defeat?

I think it is time for Toshiba to look at throwing in the towel. They have lost so much ground since the PS3 was released and the longer they continue to deny that HD DVD failed, the more they hurt the chances of HDM mass adoption.

I would think the BF ratio is key that HD DVD has lost and all we keep hearing from the HD DVD backers at AVS and other sympathetic sites, is that sales will turn around here and things will change soon. It is always ends up being should of, could of, would of....

Just admit it, Toshiba, you lost, concede and let's all move forward.

My guess is we will hear a major change in Warner release policy by the end of January which will give Toshiba no choice but to concede at that point.

Not sure about Toshiba, but the formats owners are in self destruct mode right now, HDD's forum is a laugh a minute, all reasons gone out of the window, lol.

Not until they make up some of that $150 million they gave to Paramount

They're probably just trying to break even at this point..

Is it even possible to break even at this point? At some point you have to cut your losses and take the write-off.

I mentioned before that Toshiba is not in full corporate spite mode. They will stay in this as long as they can to either ensure a stalemate or no victory by Blu. If Warner goes exclusive and Universal goes neutral only then we will be at the end game.

toshiba will admit defeat when its stockholders demand it and heads start rolling off their board of directors. given payoffs to universal and paramount, like 10 free movies with every heavily subsidized player, r&d on stupid things like TL-51, you gotta figure they lost close to a billion dollars this year.

I don't believe they ever will admit failure, they will release a dual format player and that'll be the last you hear about the format war from them, 2 years after the format war Toshiba will release a BD only player (if there is a cost differance) and thier PR Machine will try to repair any damage caused by the format war. that's how I see it playing out anyways...

I agree, I think they will fade into the background for a while and then come out supporting Blu down the road. It is going to take them a while to admit defeat if they ever do?

Monday at 11:42am Pacific time. They will be bringing four white towels to the press conference; one each for Toshiba, Microsoft, Universal, and Paramount to throw.
At the press conferece, after he has thrown his towel, the CEO of Toshiba will kill himself with a Samurai sword.

I think that when you start seeing them dumping players for, say $99.00. I think thats when they will be planing to get out of the market.

I think they will have to commit seppuku first. At least Toshiba.

But really, they will keep in this as long as possible, but they will have to concede sometime in 2008 if WB does indeed go Blu.

Obviously this will go on a long time until something like WB happens or Triple layers or something BIG.

$150 million is a drop in the bucket compared to what Sony spends put that to rest please.

When will Toshiba admit defeat?

When hell freezes over and pigs fly.

It's not going to happen anytime soon; They're out for blood. Expect kamikaze attacks soon.

I get the feeling that Toshiba is going to adopt the same strategy that Japan did in WW2 which is to fight until every last soldier is dead and never surrender (to the detriment of the world around them). Anything short of 2 atomic bombs or the use of logic will not convince HD-DVD to go away. Reason has completely gone out the window for the HD-DVD group and its followers. I've been following this war since HD-DVD launched and they've gone through quite a roller coaster ride. It wasn't so long ago that HD-DVD was winning convincingly and Blu-Ray stumbled out of the gate with a disastrous introduction. Now the tables have completely turned and all the smack that they talked a year and a half ago has come back to bite them. I respect their passion and dedication but at the same time I think they should throw in the towel before they end up like Apollo Creed in Rocky IV.

kami kaze....it's part of their culture no matter what they do if their reputation is at stake and they know seing ice berg ahead, they'd rather do it (to regain the last ounce of humanity) than to live life with shame...
